Description:
I was freelancing in a design studio with a vivacious gal from the Dominican Republic that, besides opening talking about her problems with finding a suitable boyfriend, liked to sing along with CDs and the radio while wearing headphones. She had a wonderful voice. One day she stood up in her cubicle and announced to the entire staff, "I need to get away!" From all of that, I wrote this song, wistfully imagining she might actually sing it. That didn't happen, and I made it into this demo.
Lyrics:
FLY AWAY
I've been working too long for too little pay
I need to get away
My cubicle is a cage and I'm like a bird
That needs to fly away
I've been reaching for something
Searching for someone
I've been waiting so patiently
I'll keep on waiting I'll keep on reaching
I'll keep searching for the one who's searching for me
Some days this city is so hard hitting
I feel battered and bruised
Some days it hurts so much I want to cry out
I'm not used to being used
Maybe mañana I'll smoke marijuana
Or quaff a tequila or two
Maybe tomorrow I'll medicate my sorrow
But tonight I wanna get high on you

"Cubicle Island" - that's a loaded thought. Perhaps: "I'm just a castaway on Cubicle Island." Pass me the bottle - I need to send a message. Thanks for listening and commenting. [ Reply to This ]
