Snake Oil
©2016 Neil Porter

Mean Mr Mustard
Got his foot in the door
I don’t understand
What you opened it for
Drop your guard
And he’ll walk right in
Oozing that snake oil
On everything

Chorus:
Snake oil, snake oil
Come and get your snake oil
And you’ll stay alive
Til a hundred and ten
Snake oil, snake oil
Buy my fine snake oil
Gonna make you richer
Than you’ve ever been

Mass hypnosis
Wild tirade
He’s got all the skills
Of the snake oil trade
Big on slogans
Small on hands
Gonna make America
Snake again

Snake oil, snake oil
Come and get your snake oil
And you’ll stay alive
Til a hundred and ten
Snake oil, snake oil
Buy my fine snake oil
Gonna make you richer
Than you’ve ever been

Money on the counter
He’ll give us all a case
Snake oil man
In a snake oil race
Drop your guard
And he’ll walk right in
Oozing that snake oil
On everything

Snake oil, snake oil
Come and get your snake oil
And you’ll stay alive
Til a hundred and ten
Snake oil, snake oil
Buy my fine snake oil
Gonna make you richer
Than you’ve ever been

Gonna make you richer
Gonna make you richer
Gonna make you richer
Than you’ve ever been
Snake oil, snake oil
Gonna make you richer
Than you’ve ever been

The US system is so different from ours that it's hard to comment on what's going on. From here, he's scary. Of course it wouldn't be possible in Australia for someone holding no office and with no political experience to then run for the highest office. But when maybe 40% of the population want to vote for Trump, there's obviously something going on that he is able to tap into. His opponent is also, from this distance, singularly unimpressive. Aren't there any intelligent, experienced, agile thinking, well-informed 50-somethings available for the job?

Anyway, over to the song which is your signature well-played and beautifully produced work. Fine work, Neil.

Yes, you would think that from such a large population, there might be two better candidates to be President. Of the two likely candidates though, Trump is clearly a danger (without exaggeration) to the whole world. Then again, sometimes I wonder if we have done all that much better!
Cheers,
N

Fortunately
It looks like sanity is going to come through in our election, so hopefully I won't need to crash on your couch for the next four to eight years.

This is the PERFECT commentary. The second verse is spot on. I think you see the U.S. better than we do.

Spot on!
Another zinger from down under. Trademark Neil/PBGB sound and sting. Love the label, too.

Spot on lyrics, Neil. Excellent. The most powerful nation in the world and the standard-bearer of democracy??? Their political system has become a parody of boorishness, mud-slinging and self-interest. It is plain scary. Great vibe that seems loose but is sooooo tight. Clever that. Love Kerry's work, too. Fine post. Thanks to all.

As many times as I joke about it...
...I continue to have the volume up too high every single time...

Must be because I'm coming to listening to other things on MacJams. I think you've become the MacJams Master Of Ozone...

One Plug-In to rule them all...

And even though I tease about it, the impact in your more recent mixes is much more subtle than when you first started using Ozone. I again love the drum and guitar sounds, and the harmonica is awesome...just enough and just right...

It's very cool hearing a female vocal blending with your voice; I think it totally works.

The song is once again strong and to the point, and the production is tight right up to the last beat...

love the harmonica. I'm not crazy about political songs - I like the bubble gum - but this is so laid back, and the groove just carries you along. If politics was like this groove, I'd be all about it!

Great song guys. Always a top drawer production comes out of your studio and this is no exception. Solid contributions all 'round.

Topical, to say the least. It's always interested me how the view from outside the US is fairly consistent compared to the near equal split of views within the country. I guess that not living there we have a different perspective.

This is a keeper and thanks for allowing downloads Neil.

Post Mortem
Your lyrics were prescient: "Drop your guard
And he’ll walk right in Oozing that snake oil On everything..." I am crying as I listen to this song, not because of the composition or performance itself, but because you nailed the idea so perfectly...and, now, with such a sad conclusion.
