Description
Steinway vs. Tweed!

Championship fight of the decade?
High profile divorce case?

Naw... Just some new tuneage from yours truly.

Thanks to Vic Holman for lending an ear to an early mix. He has been a big help to me as I struggle to regain my self-confidence. What a bro!

Lyrics
Shuffle Off

I.
Sat at home and watched the news today;
another psycho had his wicked way.
He pulled a gun in a crowd of people,
and blew as many as he could away!

Whatever happened to wrong and right?
---our inborn sense of the dark and the light?
Our educators and the media,
in part responsible for this blight.

Refrain:
You say you've heard it all before!
Don't wanna listen to it anymore!
Guess I'll walk out the door;
and shuffle off...

II.
What's the matter with the world today?
We treat each other in such horrible ways!
The time is ripe to learn to love one another.

It really isn't all that hard to do.
Just walk awhile in the other one's shoes.
We'll soon begin to understand each other.

Refrain:
You say you've heard it all before!
Don't wanna listen to it anymore!
Guess I'll walk out the door;
and shuffle off...

III.
Got my own inner fire to fan;
but I still care about this troubled land.
You know I'm glad to lend a helping hand, but
not gonna step in the quicksand!

Though I'll try to do whatever I can;
when it's time again to strike up the band,
I'll be off to a better land.
Bye bye! Bye bye!

Refrain:
You say you've heard it all before!
Don't wanna listen to it anymore!
Guess I'll walk out the door;
and shuffle off...

IV.
Though some folks are out there who choose to scoff;
when this ol' life is done we'll all shuffle off!

Might as well get started...

HERE WE GO!

Plenty of power here, from the hard driving guitars to the energetic vocal. The solo works well. The lyrics have something to say. I like it!

Yeah...
naievete with a good beat! But I really believe in this stuff!

Glad you enjoyed the driving tweed!

Shuffle
Yep, that's a very solid shuffle beat.

I think I hear Vic's influence in some of the guitar textures. It sounds pretty good to me.

Hiya Vic!
Always been a big fan of Mr. Holman; so it doesn't surprise me a bit if his influence creeps in here and there. Definitely a plus!

Thanks for the kind words.

Wow...
never thought of Elton John. I liked his first three or four albums. Especially that live one from 71. After that I couldn't stand his stuff. Too commercial and lost the beautiful poetic lyrics of the early albums. Still... now that you mention it I get the comparison. many thanks!

Did you play the keys too? Great one-two punch!. I too sense some hints of Elton John here and there. Enjoyed much, thanks.

I did play the keys...
...well...er...SORT OF.

I'm barely a guitar player, much less a keyboard player. It took me three hours to piece together the piano parts (inclusive of temporal tweaking). It was worth the effort. As for the style... I just tried to follow the mood...

Nice one Mike
Hard to comprehend why some folks go ballistic like that (although I've felt close sometimes ;-)
The piano is especially fine here: a good counter-sound to the rest but lovely little fills and flourishes. Sweet.

Don't use the piano
much in my music. usually organ or synth sounds when I resort to keys. I guess I'm expanding a little. Glad you found it sonically satisfying.

Live!?!?
Oh the horror! Ha ha... Never been in a band and don't fancy myself a performer. I just love writing and recording. Creative outlet, self-expression and all that jazz...

Thanks for commenting man!

Hi Neil!
The world seems always full of lyric worthy stuff. As the French say: "The more it changes the more it stays the same." I just try my best to ride the tiger till its time to get off. Glad you enjoyed the tune!

the mix sounds really dialed in here Mike. the piano now stands out on it's own throughout. matter of fact nice balance on all tracks across the board.

Hit machine...
Seriously, Mike your vacation from MJ wasn't spent doing nothing. Some real nice tunes coming forth. I really like this one. This just hits all the right buttons. The shuffle R&B feel is something I could see doing myself, but probably not as good as this song. Kudos to you and the "band." :)

Hi Jack!
Where ya been hiding old friend? Good to see you here!

RE my "vacation" of six years. I barely picked up the guitar during that whole period. Prospects of being able to afford another Mac were quite Grim... But it finally happened, and here I am, warts and all! :-)

Except for No Requiem (which i wrote six years ago but never recorded) and Boogie My blues (which is a remix of an oldie)I'm basically cranking out brand new stuff.

thanks again for listening and commenting.

Don't sell yourself short bro!
I still think you recorded one of the best songs to see the light of day at MJ! (You know which one I mean!) I hope you'll get cracking again soon!

Hey, glad you dug this one. It would never have come about if I hadn't been snowed in for three and a half days!

The riffage is killer. As is the message. We live in the curse of interesting times. The tweed tone hits the spot. Fine piano workout, too. It all sounds good. Keep the faith. Thanks.

Thank you Sir Peter!
Hopefully this tune demonstrates that some good really can come from being snowed in for the better part of four days! Ha ha... Who knew?

I appreciate the kind words of encouragement...
