Description
Been working on four NEW tunes. It's been slow going...Finally finished one of them!

This is a rocker about abusive predatory men, and the women who allow themselves to be victimized by them.

This one was difficult to sing for some reason. Not only that, but when I recorded the lead solo I had a fresh paper cut across the tip of my left hand pointer finger. The e and b strings kept sliding into the cut as I was bending them! Fortunately, I didn't have the mic on, or my bending of the English language would have been recorded as well...

'Nuff said!

Lyrics
GARGOYLE

I.
What? AGAIN!?!?

Here You stand with a bandage on your hand
---new bruises on your arms.
You say you've “fallen down!”
Why protect a man who does you harm?
You say it's not his fault.
You brought this new assault upon yourself...
You say he's gonna change.
I say you are deranged, girl;
if you believe that he will!

II.
He smiles manipulatively.
He says he's “sorry, but you need to learn.”
You scrape and grovel daily,
trying so hard not to “upset” him...
It's a prison, not a home!
He's got a heart of stone!
(Oh yeah...)
Next time could be your last dance!
Why would you take the chance?
He's not a man,
he's a GARGOYLE!

Bridge:
Another trip to the E.R.!
You don't have to live this way.
Think about it... PLEASE?

III.
You vowed “for better or worse,”
but this ain't love, it's a curse!
(You KNOW it is!)
You can leave under your own steam,
or be carried off in a hearse...
(Oh...)
Glance down at your latest suture.
Can't you see you've got no future with him?
When you decide that you're through...
good folk willing to help you!
Hey girl what you waiting for?

WALK ON OUT THE DOOR!
(Yeah!)

Social Activism some more
Dam, you certainly do make a lot of public service announcements Michael. You might be one of those chronic do-gooders that used to populate our culture.
Good on ya, appreciate the strong production values in your tunes, maybe a character based outing next? Yes? That is my request... Hombre malo Senior...

Plaintive vocal supported by a powerful backing - it works well! The interlude that starts around 1:45 is a good change. Strong ending. Impressive.

Hey KC...
I might re-do the vocal someday. I hate it when I have to strain... Glad you enjoyed the guitar work.

Unsettling
...but I guess that's how it should be with a song subject like this. Great playing , production and performance, ( despite the injury!). A quality song and a lovely heavy riff. Much enjoyed. Cheers Mark

"unsettling" indeed!
Yeah. I didn't start out intending to write on this theme. It just popped up while I was doing test scat vocals to find a possible melody line to sing. So I ran with it!

BTW, finger is healed up now... :-)

Thanks for listening and commenting Stan.

Be well frind!

Loved
the breakdown in the middle. Sort of 'goes to your head' in a good way. The feeling of the song totally fits that gargoyle creep. He'll get his!

Hey Sammy!
Thanks for the props bro!

Is it too much to hope that a "gargoyle" will hear this and suffer a twinge of conscience? Probably... but it still needs to be said and sung.

Be well friend!

Hi Tim!
RE the "riffin'": Doctors say we all need sufficient RIFFAGE in our diet. This is my humble contribution to that end. ;-)

No Pain No Gain
Okay, I of all people don't believe that. But I do believe in this song. It is a maddening thing that we have all seen before. Woman falls in love with bad boy, thinks she can change him and it just goes south. I always thought the "for better or worse" applied to things we cannot change like illness, not to behavior that is just selfish, reckless or abusive. I think this was a very good musicsl treatment of a sensitive subject. It was good to hear a hard rocker that was standing up for responsibility and making a good change.

Many thanks Tom!
I've seen a lot of this sort of things over the years, and it's always troubled me deeply. Guess i just needed to get this off of my chest!

Hi'ya Vic!
Better late than never! :-)

Some tunes you struggle to give birth to, but this one practically fell out of my guitar. Strange that...

Glad you like bro!

That
barrage of saltiness would've been neat to play for the grandkids, someday. It seemed familiar. You say this is new. Then, I guess this song was in the ether. Thanks for the cool guitar. I'm over the moon.

CHAR!!! Yayyyyyyyy...
Great to see your smiling icon again! :-)

The tune is new. I believe all songs are already in the ether. We just connect with them and bring them to life down here.

But i suppose it is stylistically similar to a number of tunes in this old genre.

"Over the moon." Say "Hi" to Alice Cramden! ;-)
