Vox Inhumana

A slightly spooky piece inspired by experiments at Stanford Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics in the early '80s when they developed FM synthesis. As modulating oscillators and formant filters are added to a basic sine wave, it takes on a human quality. What caught my ear was the eerie effect as the modulations were added, and a synth morphed into a voice. Turns out, Logic's FM synth can do what Stanford's huge computer did 35 years ago.

Kind of
h a ahFilm Noir like movie soundtrack. Enjoyed , the plaintiveness and then, the complex groove. That "ah-ah_ah" is a synth? Wow! Cool, Henry. Thanks.

Film Noir ...
...to be sure...the credits start rolling as the protagonist wanders rain-soaked streets in search of a stiff drink at 2 a.m.... streets are virtually empty ... a broken stop light blinks poco adagio at the next cross street ... and finally the music credit rolls on by: score composed, conducted, performed, and mixed by Henry Spragens. I should have known long ago that this multi-versed composer/compositor would be behind the title track, it's name echoing that late 19th c. Organ stop of (nearly) the same name. though suggesting a not-so-settling narrative to follow. You've pulled all the right stops on this one, Henry. Supurb in every way.

I love to hear a pure-musical experiment
“C’mon, let’s play around with sound, and synthesis.”   Which you did, very creatively.

The beginning of this piece was definitely very cool. Thanks for the explanation.
