CRIME STORY [Buckley/Smith]

The crime scene photo
told the story
of a naked bloody torso
by the swimming pool
sprawled in all her gory glory
she always wanted to make a splash
The crime scene photos
told the story

The chief detective
surveyed the scene
the gawkers on the balcony
did not see a thing
arms, legs, and head were gone
he sent uniforms to search the trash
as the chief detective
surveyed the scene

The newspaper reporter
writing headlines in his head
clicked his ballpoint pen
and made another note
This could make the late edition
before the paper’s put to bed
The newspaper reporter
writing headlines in his head

To the coroner it was
just another body
Not something lewd
not something naughty
He'd seen it all before
he’ll see it all again
To the coroner
it was just another body

The estranged husband
when they finally tracked him down
was shacked up with a bimbo
on the seedy side it town
He wasn't too happy when they put him in handcuffs
when they hauled him downtown
the estranged husband
when they finally tracked him down

The front page headline said it all
“Act of God” said Bishop Smirch
this would’ve never happened
if she’d just gone church
the front page headline
the reporter got his byline
the front page headline said it all

all the way through. I always have a picture in my head of you recording, imagining your space, the time of day, if anyone can hear.. All your songs give me that desire. I feel you always accomplish your goal. You entertain and satirically inform. very Midwestern and me being Midwestern as well, your songs give my a comfort of home.

See me, Hear me
Yes, no matter where we live, Tim, we'll always have some of that Mississipi River water flowing through our veins : )

I'm guessing if the neighbors can hear me, they probably find ways to tune me out.

Wacked out yet timely lyrics delivered with verve.

A strange but effective piece of social commentary.

Be well friend!

Not normal
I know I have been desensitized by senseless violence in our culture. Even as the ante goes up.

Crime Story
Comedy and tragedy intertwined. Well done tumbling all those words out coherently. After several verses I was thinking" where are the trademark guitar runs" but, of course, they entered at exactly the right time. Bishop Smirch - church. Classic. Thanks.

Taking a break
Because the lyrics are so structured, it seemed appropriate to let the guitar break ramble of its own accord, just to contrast with the rigidity of the verses. As usual, it just kind of developed on its own : )

Going where it wants to go
As I responded to Peter above, the guitar break just loosely unfolded on its own as a (comic?) relief from the fixed structure of the verses. A case of letting the music go where it wants to go (while wondering why is it going there?).
