Description:
My first experiment with looped drums in this further artistic milking of a recent break-up.

Lyrics:
What's the use of crying
You can load me up and press that switch
What's the use of smiling
In the face of all that's dark and grey

Why don't you leave it alone,
Go home and get stoned?
You've pushed it to the limit again
Why don't you leave it alone,
Go home and get stoned?
You've pushed it to the end of the line.

You can shout out loud,
You'll never raise the dead,
You can stand up proud,
She'll never leave your head.

And who the hell is counting
The thirteen weeks since you've been gone
And who the hell is Martin?
Just another fool for you to use.

Why don't you leave it alone,
Go home and get stoned?
You've pushed it to the limit again
Why don't you leave it alone,
Go home and get stoned?
You've pushed it to the end of the line.

You can shout out loud,
You'll never raise the dead,
You can stand up proud,
She'll never leave your head.

Bring all your pressure down on me,
I won't crack - you'll see.
I will thrive, I will survive,
Oh yeah.

Why don't you leave it alone,
Go home and get stoned?
You've pushed it to the limit again.

You can shout out loud,
You'll never raise the dead,
You can stand up proud,
She'll never leave your head.

Excellent &mdash 03/27/05 - 03:46:51 PM
First thought - I think we both used part of the same
drum loop today. :)

I like this a lot. The vocals ind instruments are just right.

Thanks mate,
I put a lot of effort into it and your comments are really
appreciated.
Although I think my vocals are a bit dodgy.

Your singing here fits the style of tune just fine.

Love the phrasings here. Unusual and perfectly fitting for
the song. Very interesting sounds makes for a very
interesting tune. Way to make good use of your pain.

FYI- Vocals fit the song well!

Nice tune &mdash 03/27/05 - 09:14:43 PM
Enjoyed it. I was a little put off by the beginning and was
saying oh no not another one and then you changed the
radio dial - cool! Really nice groove, good lyrics, nice
vocals(you don't have to be Pavaroti, you did a good job of
communicating the lyrics). Very nice surprise - thanks!

Really nice writing and wonderful vocal performance,
wringing out wonderful feeling and compelling use of
syncopation in your hook. Nice chorus, wonderful lyrics,
excellent bridge, nice pacing, solid writing all around.
Good choice in drums, but the highs from your ac guitar
strumming conflict with the ride or a tinky sounding
tambourine (which I would drop) in my ears. Also, I agree
about the off-putting intro, the synth sound doesn't help;
altho I really like the video game lead synth that comes in
later, making me imagine you sitting in front of a PS 2
totally bumbed out and sort of betrayed and angry.
(Maybe this could replace the intro you have.) Nice ending.
Really nice track.

Oh, and I forgot (I wish we could edit and amend comments!)... I think the
bass part is not as cool sounding as your bass used on, say, She Plays With
My Head. Perhaps it is played higher, but I prefer a wider, lower bass sound.
Just a personal preference.

Mastering &mdash 04/01/05 - 05:08:17 PM
Tnaks for the thoughts, Tobin. The hinky top end (and
bass) has only come in once I've added the inbuilt
mastering option from LE7, marked "pop".
It's very toppy but it has a greater spatial depth than I can
seem to manage myself. Unfortunately mastering is
becoming a real pain for me as I don't think I have the
skills and understanding of the art in the same way as I
hope I do with mixing. Hence I have no true
understanding of the parameters which need to be altered
in the presets available in both GB2 and LE7.
I think I'm going to have to carry on reading.
