Description:
This is as close as I have come to a "classical" piece so far. Of course, I wouldn't call it classical because the sounds were borrowed from many classic movie soundtrack pieces, spliced and layered with effects added, etc. (Three of the more recognizable pieces are "A Man Called Peter," "The Seven Year Itch," and "Love Is a Many Splendored Thing." This also contains smaller fragments of many other tunes, including "The Rains of Ranchipur," "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir," "The Tall Men," and "Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?") I wanted to create something that didn't involve a beat. I also wanted the edits to be seamless, so I worked the volume control quite a bit to blend everything with a kind of swooning/wavy echo effect. Additional synth sounds/effects were supplied by Eccentrikamerika's "XXXperimental" piece.

Listening in from a lonley outpost lightyears away... &mdash 03/31/05 - 06:54:12 PM
I have the feeling of being in outer space, an alien,
listening in on pop culture, but the signal is fading, can;t
seem to find one source, there is interference...and yet the
flow of sounds these earthlings send out is soothing,
friendly, compelling, beckoning, seductive...

This has a modern-day Charles Ives feel to it. A certain
genius in the way this was assembled. The rhythm is very
slow...

Can you ID the soundtracks for us?

Thanks for the comments, Tom... I just put the names of all the
soundtracks that I could remember being used in the description
above...

complimentary elements &mdash 03/31/05 - 07:22:06 PM
you've created something really beautiful & seductive from
pieces that would normally be considered disparate. i love
how everything sort of pulses. excellent work at the
seamless weaving you were after-flawlessly executed! call
it my warped sense of being, but i get a real spooky reflex
feeling from this.. reminds me of moments of kubrick's
the shining or more recently, that part in ghost ship when
the cable *snaps*. heheh, wicked indeed

Lotsa stuff going on.

Interesting approach.

It's like something is trying to break-loose. Get free, but
in a musical kind of sense.

Thanks for sharing

It's like some mad scientist is randomly probing my brain
to trigger soundtrack memories.

"...it wasn't chestnuts anyway, they were jewels...." &mdash 04/01/05 - 10:59:48 PM
swoony it is, captain mollusk.
again- thumbs up. this is a bit like a kubric movie,
kubrick meets hitchcock.
it is all but seamless, and such a graceful little
number.
an esoteric auditory ballet.
an octopus gliding along the ocean floor.
a monkey throwing poo underhand to smack you on
the bottom of the chin.
good work!

I'll have a wave chamber with a side of LSD please.
Love the idea behind this.

Interesting &mdash 04/02/05 - 03:05:08 AM
This works well in a kind of Terry Riley/John Cage
experimental sense. Not really my thing but it obviously
very well done. I'll have to listen to your other stuff.

Interresting cut and paste approach you have here and in many of your
songs.
