Description:
Honesty usually makes the best poetry. We'll see. I intend to remove this one before Tuesday. Sorry for the rhymes.

Lyrics:
Anti-depressant

Effexor crunches at the back of the throat
a baby toy or distant snake warning.
If I overdose on antidepressants will I
die of happiness?
40 mgs of Prozac and a shot of jack daily
and I feel normal
(if normal is getting out of bed today).
Take two of these and never call me again.
It takes more than Vicoden
to make the pain go away.
Zoloft is a cliché and where all the kiddies
begin (if you don’t count Ritilin).
Xanax is for panic attacks, but I take it too late,
and I have unreasoning anxiety I’ll run out.
Where it says refills: my doctor put a sideways 8.
I’m on a chemical search for functionality.
A little dose of reality. The problem I have is
it attacks my rigidity,
And I can’t get myself to ask for Viagra
just so I can jerk off.

Thank God for Cialis. 4 Hour erections!

Will do. I knocked it out last night. Wrote it while recording it (in effect). I plan
to add music, maybe change it a little. I think the new title is "Self
Medication." I plan to perform it at a slam this Tuesday, so wanted reaction
here first.

Interesting Poem &mdash 04/01/05 - 05:56:41 PM
I have several friends on some pretty heavy
antidepressants who will appreciate this... the often talk
about their drugs the way you do in this.

Interesting Poem &mdash 04/01/05 - 09:14:34 PM
Thanks. I was somewhat afraid of offending people. Which is funny from me,
since I'm generally comfortably on the other side of that line. I don't want
people to miss my intent, which is not to make fun of depression, but rather to
have fun with it. Well, at least not take it so damn seriously.

Christ On A Bicycle. &mdash 04/02/05 - 10:45:07 AM
He just popped a wheelie and jumperd over Snake
Canyon without a safety net.

Contemporary, concise, so god damnned honest it's
like a priest getting caught having gay sex in front of
his entire Church congregation, and it's about as
funny as a baby kitten wrapped in lit' dynamite.

I pray you are being sarcastic. I weep for the future.

A woman I know was talking to me of muses, said her poetry comes to her in
dreams, said that and a mutual friend of ours were what inspired her. I said
my inspiration was my biography. She said this was "even cooler," I thought,
only if you like train-wreck poetry.

Prozac coolness &mdash 04/09/05 - 09:48:49 AM
Some great lines. "...a baby toy or distant snake
warning." "If I overdose on antidepressants will I
die of happiness?" "I can’t get myself to ask for Viagra
just so I can jerk off." Could be in The New Yorker, or
some un-PC version of Readers Digest. Don't know
about the deadpan delivery, tho. I'm not sure if using
more vocal modulations and giving more lines additional
personality injections might make it more entertaining or
get in the way of what you are saying. But the sense that
you are deep into abusing Prozac permeates the entire
performance.

Prozac coolness &mdash 04/09/05 - 05:17:16 PM
Heh. Thanks. I think I want someone to write me a piece of music that starts
out fine, then breaks down as it goes, ending in chaos, just so I can play this
track up. I pretty much recorded this one as I was writing it. Kind of a
different experience.

I didn't intend to leave this up long. Was thinkingif people said it sucked, I'd
not perform it. I did, but the crowd was too small. One woman at the back
laughed her way through the whole thing. Half way, I stopped, "Well, we know
who's on the anti-depressants now," then back into it. I did change the title,
and some words (no major changes), so will rerecord and reupload.

I am a deadpan kind of guy though, sort of like asking Steve Wright to act
excited.

Good phrasing &mdash 05/07/05 - 05:34:50 AM
I like this one, it is short and the phrasing is good, maybe a little mood changes in the background will help to put more drama in it. But the phrasing is def. allright. The only thing that wood shock me is if you would say that Bush is the greatest humanist alive. Ever listen to Captain Beefheart? He did recite some great poetry on Zappa's Bongo Fury (The man with the woman Head). You should try it more abstract someday, with the aid of background noises.

Did this. Scan up the list to "Self-Medication." This was a early take, and one I
was planning to take down. Now it has too many comments.

Feel free. I did do this with a later cut called "Self-Medication," but I am always
interested in what others can do. Let me know if you want the .band file.
