Description:
This is a new song that's blended into an older one. It's kinda folky and digital at the same time. I guess that's part of the concept. You might call it "folktronica." Took 19 tracks and 3 hours to make. If you take the time to get through it all, leave me a comment and let me know what you think.

Lyrics:
i am weaving through raindrops
as i drive in my car
and the sound of the wipers
becomes part of the song

and the song that is playing
becomes part of my heart
it is beating like drums yea
keeps me singing along

and it's not making sense yea
all this mending of fences
the verbs are past tense yea
like your camcorder lens is

so take off your scarf babe
i dont you like what you prescribe
you ruin the book with what you say
just leave me here to move and die

switch...

i think you exist but i cannot say for sure
my world is physically affected by the swinging of a door
and you are physically attractive to those who can't endure
the pain of actual reality you help them to avoid

i was caught up in conversation couple weeks ago
bout what constitutes intelligence and how are we are to know
that the sky's really blue and the latest research shows
we were monkeying around just a million years ago

chorus:
i think i'll die by this light

my wrist is crimped and cramped from manipulating this
wandering arrow that i navigate with
and it needles through my skin and helps me get my fix
when i point it at the screen and proceed to double click

its heart is smaller than pinhead, it's beating all the time
you can view it through a microscope if it's magnified
now i know that this is true because the truth it doesnt lie
it is beeping it is bleeding it is feeding me tonite

chorus
i think i'll die by this light

bridge:
doot doot doot doot

this is the place where the battle will be waged
between ambitious binary digits and the neurons they'll replace
for now i am happy i can recognize my face
your unshakable resistance only expedites the change.

(noise)
switch...

and the radio's dying
like my grandfathers did
but this'll be a funeral
that i'd never argue with

so the medium moves on yea
but the message it lives
"Young man, here's an outline,
you can fill the rest in."

you can fill the rest in
leave me here to move and die (repeat)

Epic - but what does it mean? &mdash 04/01/05 - 02:03:39 PM
This is a very cool piece. Must have taken you forever. I'm
not sure I can tell you what it's about, but the parts are
fun to listen to. Has an epic feel to it, adolescent angst.

Good work, Scooter.

I guess the song is about the new washing away the old. The digitial replacing
the physical. That's what I was trying to do with the segues. There's a book by
Nicholas Negraponte called Being Digital, and in it he talks about the war
between physical atoms and digital bits of information. I guess the song is
kind of inspired by that.
Thanks for listening.

A mountain of potential &mdash 04/03/05 - 11:18:50 AM
I'm not being a smartass here, but I don't think you're
done with this one quite yet. There's a ton of good shit in
it but three hours does not an epic make. Stepping back
and having a look at the overall result might unite the
elements more effectively, as might shelving it for a week
or two to return with a fresh perspective.

I think you're on to something with this folktronica of
yours, the Neuromanceresque war between the physical
and digital, and man, I'm really looking forward to a revisit
of this one. 7-5-9-7
