Description
I wrote this opening credits tune for my young lad's video series The Realm of Convergence (© 2001 J.J. Bakay) which he has been making at film school with his buddies.
Indie rocker Seamus Cowan (www.bullmoose.com) is on bass and additional guitars come from John Grindrod, who had a couple of (mild) hits in the '70s with the band Photograph.
Opening vocals: Rogue Bakay

Lyrics
Just a brief setup
It is the calm before the storm. The fourth age is coming to a close, and with it, The Realm of Mysticism. But before the fifth age, and its governing realm can fully awaken, an ancient evil sees an opportunity to thwart the natural order of the membranes, bringing all of the realms together for the first time, fulfilling the ancient apocolyptic prophecy — Convergence.

Convergence

But will they all come together in con-ver-gence?
Before, the Emerald calls.
In the end some things simply make no difference,
When the veil of approaching darkness falls.

Through the fading curtain of the fourth age,
As the realm of the mysticism failed,
Came the slender blade edge of betrayal,
While the time of the spirit had prevailed.

But can they all come together in convergence?
Past the guards, wards and several protocols?
All that went before or follows will make no sense,
When the veil of approaching darkness falls.

While the sword of creation holds the balance,
Pandemonium rules just the same.
With the rogue wurm’s plan already set in motion,
Embers grow to an inner mounting flame.

Can you now see the problems of con-ver-gence?
Seven swords, seven dragons hit the wall.
What was power will fade without resurgence.
And have grave consequences for us all.

Hey tiler, thanks a million for taking the time, man. I was starting to get
worried about this one (especially after it got bombed right out of the gate).

I guess you can take the boy out of the country but . . . Still been known to
crank out a tune or two from Merle, Charlie, or one of the Hanks.

Although most of the guitar work on this one is me, I'm betting the licks you
like belong to John Grindrod, who is also my son's (de facto) godfather. A
curious observation about Grindrod is that despite how well he can pick, he
seems to prefer making buckets of money running Trinidad's oil industry. Go
figure.

I'm generally reluctant to include lyrics on songs. always fearful they will
intrude on someone's mental pictures (a man hears what he wants to hear
and disregards the rest and all that), but since you asked . . .

thanks again

ScooterD — Thanks man. You know I never thought of this tune as even
having a country flavour but two out of two commenters have picked up on
that. It's so cool to have somebody point out something in one of your songs
that you never even realized was there.
It's stuff like this that keeps us all coming back to MacJams.
It was also especially satisfying to hear good things about the guitar work.
Grindrod and I have been playing together for longer than either of us care to
remember and maybe, just maybe, we're finally getting the hang of it.
New age country, eh? Kinda like the sound of that . . .
cheers

Would love to see the setting for this song....the movie.
Overall really good clean sound here. I think that the
lyrics are realy well crafted as well.

My suggestions would be in reference to dynamics and
perhaps more empahsis placed upon the guitar solo. I do
realize that you are intending this as a film score,
however, so I am sure that the way it sounds now is best
suited for the film.

Thanks for sharing.

Triple M — thanks man.

For now, you'll just have to imagine a flight over seven (completely different)
worldscapes. The young lad was really pleased with what he had done in
Bryce until Maya came along and changed everything.

As to emphasizing the guitar solos, I'm not sure I follow. I thought they were
pretty up front as it is.

hello snowdragon, i really liked the haunting feel of the
tune and the dry vocals.
guitars are nice and raw, the simple lines work well.

Like it, what can I say. Let's see, it's Johnny Cash with a
mystical vibe. It really works well. Great voice, guitars
and production.

cool!
out of the ordinary, genre busting - i liked it. i completely get the J.Cash references in the other comments. If the MiB was into the mystical, this is what he would've come up with. I liked the narrative, story telling vibe.
well done & thanks for sharing!
