Nice Production and Vocals &mdash 04/02/05 - 11:55:56 PM
I really enjoyed your vocals. Maybe add more melody to the song? It's a bit too plain for me, but whatever floats your boat. Maybe a rolling piano or something, might be good to come in after the first verse. Maybe you want to make a remix or something. Good Job! Keep posting more! [ Reply to This ]

And what mysty said &mdash 04/03/05 - 11:07:18 AM
This song is about the erosion of self-concept that takes place when
someone is victimized over a long period of time. I imagined what a murder
victim might say if they'd developed Stockholm syndrome prior to their
death....and could speak from the grave. I also like the implied threat the
victim makes, to either haunt the murderer, or at least reveal what the
murderer has done.

Disturbing and Engrossing. &mdash 04/03/05 - 01:09:01 PM
Nice performance and mix on the vocals. I like how the
different vocal tracks interplay. The lyrics are quite
unnerving. I've thought lately that the whole serial killer
angle is quite played out (Ozzy, Alice in Chains, Breaking
Benjamin (?)) but telling it from the victims viewpoint (or
the guilt over this act in the killers mind) was quite
original and eery. Would make a good soundtrack to the
next Hannibal Lecter movie. Like the music too. Good
job. [ Reply to This ]
Disturbing and Engrossing. &mdash 04/03/05 - 02:06:14 PM
Thanks for listening. I've been working a lot this semester with battered
women, who are often murdered by their husbands. The idea of being told
for years how worthless and irredeemable you are, and coming to the point
you believe you deserve the abuse you get, inspired this track.
Again, thanks for your input.

minimalistic.. &mdash 04/04/05 - 08:15:18 AM
but your voice is strong enought that it works for the mood of this piece. Seductive and disturbing all at the same time.

I guess I was thrown off by the description. But I really like the song. I think I appreciate it a bit more after reading your explanation of what it's really about. Good use of a cheap external mic and well put together. [ Reply to This ]

Thanks for taking time to listen to my piece. Yeah, sometimes I forget that a
darkly ironic description might not read the same way to other people. I'm
too much inside my own little world, I guess. LOL! But I really appreciate your
comments, and I'm glad you visited to listen.
Thanks!

Conscience, ghosts, memories, haunting &mdash 04/05/05 - 01:06:01 PM
What a great sound. Your vocal layers are like ghosts,
memories, haunting; the ambiguous lyrics are very cool...
would never have guessed murder without the hint. Would
make a great soundtrack tune for a film about such a
moment. You mined this concept really well. [ Reply to This ]

Great clattery techno bits... &mdash 04/25/05 - 03:34:45 PM
I love that harsh sound assault right after the first
"dragging the river looking for me" - and again at the end
before "better tie it tight".
There are incredible touches here; it's a great dark song,
and you've got a wonderful sense of sound, but I think for
me it lost a little energy after that first lift I was talking
about.
It's a bit off my beat - but what about playing a little more
with the rhythm tracks? It has a sort of dub feel to it; I
could see a sort of double-time garage beat bursting in at
one point. I dunno... may be way off beam.
But it's dead good. [ Reply to This ]

Apropos sultry downer-singing. You definitely need a
pop-screen and a better mic to hilight your great voice!
Disturbing lyrics. The industrial scritchy sfx here and
there were OK, but some were a bit loud, and almost
sounded like unintentional clipping. But overall I liked
this uncomfortable poetry.

Serene Nightmare &mdash 05/02/05 - 09:00:37 PM
Super groove! The vocals are luscious and the electronic
backing is as expressive as a hands-on performance.
Couldn't help but think of Massive attack, who also blend
sultry vocals and electronica in a uniquely sympathetic
manner. Great song concept and you nail the mood
perfectly with accusation-less remorse and a creepy
undertone.
Really nice production touches in this as well. The
instruments are both sharp and "smeared" at the same
time... depth, clarity, and motion. Don't really know what
improvements to suggest. You may get better traction
with casual listeners if you accentuate the song structure
more heavily (more distinct sections), but I like it just as it
is! (7-9-7-8)
P.S. I don't know if prog rock is the right genre for this. I'd
consider it downtempo electronica, but our choices of
genre are fairly limited. [ Reply to This ]

Deliberate Distortion &mdash 05/15/05 - 03:26:54 PM
Thanks for listening, baki!
Several people have noted the drum distortion, so I thought, once and for
all, I'd verify that, yes, I deliberately used a distorted drum loop, hoping to
give some raunchy contrast to the otherwise smooth background. I like the
nasty rough-edged sound of these two spots, and I also like the ambiguity
they provide, production-wise. It's supposed to make you
uncomfortable...apparently, it works.
Thanks again to everyone who has listened, voted, and commented. It's
been a great debut for me here!

Powerful depths &mdash 05/09/05 - 04:27:18 PM
It's wonderful to hear a woman tackling something so
dark. You've done a fantastic job of it too. This really
is first rate. I love the pared down arrangement ... it
creates the right backdrop for your voice and gives
the rougher noises more punch. I love the techno
sounds, I think you've got them just right. And your
voice is lovely. I'm highly impressed, Rebecca. [ Reply to This ]
Very cool &mdash 08/21/05 - 01:01:33 PM

insidiously hauntingly, &mdash 08/30/05 - 07:50:55 PM
wickedly captivating. I love eerie work like this. You might like my 4 Days Dead which is a similiar theme but wherein the victim has risen 4 days later and plots vengeance.
I didnt see anyone comment on the distinct feel to the sound of water. In listening to the song I am given impressions of water in the movement and the vocals as if you are submerging. Very subtle but tis there and perfect. Excellent work. More please like this. You have an excellent voice shown in this piece for a range of vocals all well done. [ Reply to This ]
This is great... &mdash 08/31/05 - 08:14:12 PM
It's funny, I wouldn't have thought to call this a prog tune,
which is not a complaint of any kind... I don't care what a
thing is called at all...
(It's all folk rock to me.)
The lyrics are excellent, to begin with. I love the vocal. The
quality of the singing suits the bluesy feel...and the vocal
treatment is really good...
I'm not familiar with the conventions of this kind of a
track... I like the use of noise to bust it up and provide
percussion... I sometimes feel that, on my set-up...the
noise bits are more forward in the mix than some vocal
elements...That might be a stylistic choice... And some of
those bits seem more pushed into distortion than
completely suits them, to me...
Aside from that question, and it's a real question, the
production is awesome...
A lot of things that fancy themselves prog or arty seem to
be "cold", emotionally, but this one, despite a 'cool' vibe,
has a deep emotional feel consonant with any blues tune;
I can imagine all sorts of people covering it, just as a
tune...
All in all, I like this very much... It's accessible while being
slightly off the beaten path...
