What a lush, gorgeous sound! This genre of music isn't exactly my thing but this song really put a smile on my face.

Plagiarist! &mdash 04/07/05 - 04:51:17 PM
I've hear this somewhere before!

Ok, so it was yours. This song sounds like it should be in
an old time romantic movie.

I have to concur with Magritte on not being my genre, but
still wonderfully sweeping. Cool stuff.

your cellist. It's got soul and has contagious optimism.

obey your Master! &mdash 04/08/05 - 12:56:33 AM
Thanks everyone for the flattering comments.

This was my first finished composition with Logic, and I'm afraid it'll be hard
to top.

Mastering is a black art. I've concluded that I just can't produce the same
results as this guy (xarcmastering.com). Sure I have multiband compressors
and expensive reverbs, FIR mastering EQs, but knowing what to do with them
is the larger part of the story.

Anyway, glad this brings a smile to some people's faces. And to be honest,
it's not my kind of music either :-)

Victor.

starts off great &mdash 04/08/05 - 09:17:32 AM
i really liked it until the electric piano part, and then it starting becoming something else, and then the regular piano solo just seemed too busy for the easy going feel of the piece. i wished you would've stuck with the feel of the first half, it was perfect. really like that bouncy electric piano and cello duet.

defies description &mdash 04/08/05 - 02:41:49 PM
I guess this is pop...not sure. It has a flavor all its own.
And the cellist surely beats the Fitch cello I've been using.
Nice work, Vic.

Funny old world... &mdash 04/08/05 - 03:14:13 PM
This sounds superb. This is so much richer than the
first posting. I'd have thought that by the time stuff
was compressed to MP3, the mastering process
wouldn't make a whole heap of difference. Clearly,
I'm never going to fully understand recording audio
before I die... Anyway, enough of my meanderings,
it's a lovely track. Only point to note is that (for
obvious reasons) the piano doesn't sound like it was
in the same space as the cello - not sure how to
solve the real/virtual issue though. Great stuff.

Very lush and realistic Cello &mdash 04/08/05 - 04:19:24 PM
For Commercially mastered, the mix comes across on my
end as quite hot and the bass is clipping quite a bit over
the 0 db level on my mixer. The bass goes down as the
song moves on, but the the rest of the instruments are
playing back too loud, and clipping.

Did you perhaps add an equalizer preset to this track after
it was mastered. EQ can make all the difference to a track
wether it is "professionally" done or worked up in some
home studio.

I liked the song and especially the cello, but the clipping
and hot levels really did not sit well with my ear. I wonder
more about the production here, and the "unkown
equipment" that was used. Furthermore I wonder about
the engineer whom was in charge of this one.

Just my take on it though.

I love what you've done with this song. I enjoy putting this
sort of music in the background and stuff. It's very enjoyable.
Everything just blends and fits together really nicely!
Great work!

Absolutely. Beats me why this guy doesn't have a recording contract.
