Description:
Oh man! This song was originally recorded by my band, Incite Out, on my Roland VS-1824. I had to re-record each track into GarageBand and then re-mix, add effects and EQ. Took me about 13 hours!

The original recording's sound quality wasn't that great. The original tracks from the 1824 where all done live so, there was a huge amount of track bleed. I tried to take care of it as much as possible. I'm fairly satisfied with the results. However, it will be re-done sometime in the future with better room acoustics and isolation.

Anyhow, "Yer Neighbor" was inspired by a gripey, downstairs neighbor who kept banging on the door telling me to turn things down. I instead wrote this song and turned it up...just for him. Enjoy!

Lyrics:
Yer Neighbor
Dave Placko © 1995

Here I stand, alone. I'm lookin' out my window
What's goin' on outside?
I don't know and I really don't care to
Just leave me alone. Don't be afraid. I won't hurt you

It's not fair for you to judge me
'Cause you don't get along with my kind of people
Don't criticize me. If you want to antagonize me
I'll be right next door

I think the sky is blue
But it may be gray
I'll have to wait for the clouds on my own eyes to go away
Maybe there's an answer. Maybe if I pray

It's not fair for you to judge me
'Cause you don't get along with my kind of people
Don't criticize me. If you want to antagonize me
I'll be right next door

I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know!
Maybe if we live today; forget about tomorrow
Maybe if we weren't so afraid we'd forget about the sorrow
And maybe if we bit it off we'd chew it up and swallow

It's not fair for you to judge me 'Cause you don't get along with my kind of people
Don't criticize me. If you want to antagonize me
I'll be right next door

Makes me wonder how this situation with the neighbor
turned out.

Sweet guitars and always nice to hear a song that has a
higher purpose :)

It's amazing to remember where my head was at the time I wrote this.
Nothing happend with the neighbor except he got more of an ear full than he
would've had he not said anything. I've always had somewhat of a problem
when people tell me to turn it down :)

I also remember that at the time this song was evolving, a friend of mine was
being exposed to some bigotry. So, the song kind of took a turn to deal with
that.

Thanks for listening.

Hey neighbor &mdash 04/11/05 - 07:21:54 PM
Thought I would slip over and listen to your tunage. Wow, you really put a lot of work into this and I think it paid off. Seems we kinda share the same sentiment. Makes me happy my NEIGH-bors are horses. Ha! Rock on!

Very Fine Work &mdash 04/11/05 - 07:57:04 PM
Very, very good song and performance.
I think the mix sounds a bit thin and distant to my ears
and someone with more production experience than I
might be able to suggest something - unless, of course,
that's the way you wanted it to sound - but a little more
bass would really rile the neighbor. ;)

Thanks for the coment. Yeah, bass. I didn't have a very good bass track to
begin with. I dinked with that track (and the snare drum) for the longest
amount of time. I never could get it to sound the way I wanted. I gave up,
finally, at about 2 in the morning.

We wrote a song about a similar situation called "Greet the
elderly." Living in an area with older folks, ha. Anyway, I
really like this song, great vocals and guitar work.
Stellar job!
