Description:
more stuff

Lyrics:

angel/of the smallest sound
white noise/ you're all around
the sweetest voice i ever heard
never said a word...
to make it better,
you rub your wings together...

angel/of the smallest sigh
fragile as a dragonfly...
the one adored in floor and spring;
in shutter, shade and hinge
-in the flutter of pages/of wings
-of worn-out things...

angel/of the smallest noise
angel/of the unheard voice
in you, comfort i have found
even in the smallest sound...

Small sounds; big song &mdash 04/12/05 - 03:20:18 AM
What a great song about noise. The beauty of small
sounds. That line "One adored in
floor and spring; in shutter, shade and hinge" is one of the
best lyrics I've come across here. And that little pause
between lines on the last verse is great, begging you to
enjoy small silences.

What I was dreading, listening to this delicately
mysteriosu song, was that you'd lose
confidence in how stripped down this song was and bring
in some guitar solo or something, which would spoil the
sense of miniature. I was so relieved you didn't. To be
honest I even found the
additional voice - though beautiful - one element too
much.

But it's beautifully excecuted and one of the most
genuinely original pieces of songwriting I've come across
here.

Something about Angels &mdash 04/12/05 - 05:47:38 AM
This was very good and inventive. Never really looked at
things from this perspective but very on target. Beautiful!

Beautiful! &mdash 04/12/05 - 06:38:41 AM
In this case, apart from your other songs, your voice carries the whole song, and the pauses add a certain amount of drama. Good idea bringing in the female vocals at the end. One of your best ones yet!

Loved it! Downloaded it!

This what I love about MJ &mdash 04/12/05 - 09:20:41 AM
What a wide variety of talent here. There is a never ending
variety of wealth with fresh approaches to creativity. And
this is one of them.

Like the fine backround sound. The female singing just
fits in perfectly as well as the lead.

Thanks much

Great song writing. &mdash 04/12/05 - 12:08:28 PM
I'm not one to listen to this style of music, and I was a little thrown off guard by the really quiet intro, but this is a perfect example of beauty in simplicity. The male vocals are perfect for the character of the song and it kept my attention all of the way through even though it was slow. I'm really impressed.

Very Pro &mdash 04/12/05 - 03:50:42 PM
production here.
I like the confidence with which you sing this, whilst still
maintaining that beautiful softness and gentle way of
singing.
I must admit, I'm not so keen on the addition of the
female vocals brought up in the mix towards the end.
Your vocals are strong enough to carry the track without.
(I'm not saying I dont like the female vocals, just not in
this song). the simple beauty of the guitar melody and
everything kept rather subdued, is perfect.
excellent track.

What a great song you've posted here. I love the way you
have presented this song with your voice. Delicate, quiet,
almost whispered.

Excellent.

Excellent tune! Very relaxing. Minimalist, small sounds,
that meld together quite nicely make this a wonderful
song.

'everything you've heard is true' &mdash 04/13/05 - 09:18:36 PM
I can't add much to the previous comments, except to
point out the obvious: nothing in this piece is wasted.
There is no excess. And nothing more is needed. So, jonx,
you are very close to the Truth here.

With the delicacy of wings &mdash 04/14/05 - 09:01:40 AM
The intimacy of John Mayer at his acoustic best. with
shades of the delicacy of Donavon at his intimate best.
Simple and pure, but when the female voice comes in to
the far left, what a great moment. Wonderful.

Words are too clumsy... &mdash 04/14/05 - 07:43:14 PM

so rich in its simplicity.

Absolutely Loved It &mdash 04/15/05 - 02:50:40 PM
This is one of my all time favourite macjams tunes. Very
well written and recorded. Although I have to agree with
slimmie in that I didn't care for the female vocal (pretty
much opposite to most here). It was performed fine, but i
thought the male vocal carried the song well enough on
it's own.

Great work. DL'd

Great. This reminds me of Peter Gabriel in his quiet moments. I can't think of a higher compliment.

I have not been able to go a day without singing this song in my head! I absolutely love it. It is evocative and peaceful, so different than most songs today. I downloaded it and show it to everyone who comes to my house. You have done such a good job!

Simple yet sublime &mdash 05/12/05 - 03:59:41 AM
I don't tend to like what I might call 'simple' songs
because I don't find there's enough 'going on' but
occasionally simplicity works a treat. How one can
make a simple song sound so sublime I do not know
but it works 100%. It's the songwriting, the
performance generally, plus I love the bit where the
female voice comes in… each to their own of course
but I think it's great! It raises the bar on what is
already a wonderful track. I'm looking forward to
hearing more. Good luck with the CD!

Inspritional &mdash 10/24/05 - 11:50:41 PM
This song reminds of to think about life beyond it's daily task.

I think the female vocalist at the end was much needed. While the
listening to the song for the first I thought for sure you where going to
sing in a higher octave. Perhaps even change the key. The female
vocalist makes it seem as if there was an angel with you the entire
time.

Really beautiful... &mdash 11/09/05 - 08:46:54 AM
But I think some soft, brushed, heavyly reverbed drums would fit nicely and would add to the song...

BTW, its a beautiful, beautiful song and sound...

Wow, This is amazing. One of the best songs I have heard On macjams Ever. The lyrics are terrific, and your voice is so near. It reminded me a lot of Iron&Wine, Both in voice, instrumentation and songwriting. This was just great!
