Lyrics

i was reminded/of nicholas the czar:
the way he stood against the wall...
-and how he didn't have the heart
for the pleasantries and barbs
that seemed as genuine to him as any art...

as he made his way/to the open bar,
to grip and grin with the major A&R.
someone said they knew him
from before he turned away from the world...
-but who could say when that might have been?

now i live on a shoestring,
and what i have to say
is framed for the jaded to decide...
but should it come to mean anything at all,
-how could so many nobodies be wrong?

now, lights are going down...
the unseen curtain rises...
the hush over the crowd...
the strange, uncertain silence...

Short and bittersweet
An eclectic anthem for the democratic world. Short and
sweet, like the career of your mythic rock star. Great
rhymes. The settings you give your poems are so well
chosen, performed. Drumming sounds real, everything is
well balanced. A certain distance to your vocals, in my
ears due to both your hushed singing style and what
seems like hi end EQing, makes it sound like a demo, even
tho it gives your consonants wonderful crispness. And the
fade clicks off before a complete fade is thru. But showing
the edges before and after kind of bookends the art
between. Love the way you are able to do this, transcend
the medium by exposing it. Another great track.

Nice.
I've been trying to figure out who you remind me of...and I
don't think it's anyone in particular. I've decided it's an
eclectic morphing of Seven Mary Three and Damien
Rice....folk-inspired rock. Love it...just wish it was longer!

Another
Great short song. Excellent lyrics, vocals, arrangement,
mix. All great. Personally, though, I wish this song was
longer. It sounds like it's just getting ready to take off for
a chorus and another verse.

These songs of yours are gems
perfectly crafted, to mix a metaphor. They defy
songwriting rules. No chorus, no bridge, no key change.
Just great songs, framed for the jaded to decide.

Thanks for posting this one.

Rock club . . .
. . . is where it sounds like this was recorded. Great
ambience. Expressive singing and thoughful lyrics. Vocal
harmonies are well-performed.

Sounds like this was one of those songs which wrote
itself. If not, you make it sound easy. You've got great
skills (and I don't mean num-chuck skills!).

Ok, this is my third jonx song
Your voice is a cross between the reedyness of early 70's
Peter Gabriel (say "curtain again") crossed with Cat Stevens's
populist low key folky vibe played by a 21st century indie
band.

Just uberpolished. Yet still gritty.

Please post some technical details if you get the chance.

This is Good Stuff
A Totally Good Lyric and Presentation. Crisp.

I like the best Poetic thought that's not a Poem trying to be a Song.
Rather, it's clearly a song which is like a poet's gesture. Big Difference.
Greatly satisfying.

Best,
Cooper

Harsh warmth
Listened again and again this is such a good song. All the right
everything. A little tiny sounding maybe, could use more warmth, but the
harshness is an interesting contrast to the seemingly warm thoughtful
soul behind the mic.
