Great playing and nice mic work. I love how the song starts out -- nice bright melody -- but I think it gets confusingly busy towards the middle with the additional voices, and then I almost lose the beat right before the restatement of the original melody. Perhaps instead of additional lines you could double some of the existing melodies with different instruments...just a thought.
I'd really like to hear more of your playing...in fact I have a piece in mind that could use a lovely clarinet like yours...

Thanks.

I don't know if I an even recall hearing a clarinet.
That is a very welcome sound. It so great to have diversity.
I think that is one of the things most needed here at MJ.
Thanks for sharing the wonderful sound of the clarinet.
Benny Goodman still lives!
Thanks
bbarner
In the 1930s the clarinet was an instrument for playing contemporary pop music--the music that young people danced to in nightclubs--and clarinet players Benny Goodman and Artie Shaw were huge pop stars. Now people still associate the instrument with swing and dixieland jazz (and classical music), but I wonder whether the clarinet could be used to play contemporary dance/pop music.

With all due respect to Magritte, not one note should be
changed. This is my idea of heaven, surrounded by
beautiful clarinets. I love the colors in this piece.
This is also one of the things I like best about this site.
Where else could I hear this?? Thanks for posting, and for
tipping me to this tune. I have only heard this and the
piece you did with Tobin and McBoy, but I will be checking
out previous pieces. Thanks again.

I get the vibes of a royal ceremony happening with this
piece.........excellant clarinet tone......when are you going
to do some soprano sax(my fetish) pieces?
bbarner
Thanks for listening. You can hear some soprano sax at:

have a listen to "Found Chords", for example.

Your clarinet playing is so clean, I always feel washed and
renewed after listening to you play. Very nice separation
of parts in the stereo field. Lovely low register. Got a kick
out of the hand percussion. Have to agree that a few
moments seemed a but too busy at the end, but they
made me smile with delight as opposed to being put off.
How can you ever get enough clarinets?
pooey
I'm always impressed by clarinetists--considered
masters of a one-trick pony, always trying to do
something different (okay, I'm mainly thinking of a
friend who plays through guitar effects pedals 'n
such). The clarinet is a great instrument when in
good hands (and embouchures).
This one is a paradox: simple, pretty lines,
becoming utterly complex when superimposed. But
somehow there is resolution right around the corner.
Love it. Someone said "refreshing". Absolutely.
Time to dust off my trombone. Where's Cameron?
He'd like this one.
A piece to piss off your co-workers. "What's that?"
Oh, you'll never understand--go back to your
American Idol chatter...(Of course, this is a fictional
situation and in no way is a reflection of my
workplace--I love my co-workers. And I do watch
American Idol. Anthony Fedorov is the Anti-Elvis.)
pooey
Oh yeah: 9 - 9 - 9 - 9
Refreshing!

Very cool journey. Something very pleasing about the jazz feel of the clarinet. Your playing is fluid. My only crit may be the rythym parts sounded a little off. Episodic, in places. Yet all in all a very creative composition. Really nice.
