Lyrics
The Line

I've been on the Line
all of the time
all of the time

I'm drinking beer
every year
every year

I'm alone
don't use the phone
don't use the phone

Jim's got my card
I'm workin' too hard
I'm workin'

Say goodbye to old Jim Larkin
when I'm gone
when I'm gone

Do it for me...

Different...
...but not necessarily in a good way. It's like folk music
meets Kraftwerk, and for me, that's not a good
combination. You've got this recurring, sort of, beeping
sound taking place that is more annoying than anything
else. The mix seems to be breaking up in some places.
Overall, I think you can do better.
(I guess I'll be regreting my honest assessment at some
point in the future, but here it is anyway).

Different...
Not at all!

I am pleased to have input!

I have a hard time guessing why people vote certain ways. How can I
improve.

I'm a cartographer. I work with editors continually. Criticism is an important
part of production.

(I worked on a Line for 7 years before college, I was much more sensitive to
negative input, then)

Cool tune...
love the digital signal noise fx and the slow tempo. Great
concept and performance. Voice maybe needs to be a
touch more out front. But dayum...this is an excellent
song. Sorta gives me a Leon Russell vibe but from an
acoustic perspective. Might work better with a softer rim
shot percussion-wise. Great voice!!! The breakout and
drop down near the end are awesome both in concept and
performance. Maybe use that structure back at the earlier
bridge also? Enjoyed this one. Thanks a bunch for sharing
it here.

Cool tune...
This means a lot to me!

Seeing both ends of the spectrum definitely help me to develop flavors.

I will restructure the song, as time and inspiration allow!

Needs some cohesiveness
Lots of interesting sounds here, but having that clean
guitar next to everthing distorted needs something to
hold it together.

The guitar sounds out of time in a few spots.

But I think that your goal of seeming different isn't being
acheived by the wide range of tones being used. Like I
said previous, this needs a foundation to hold it together.

All is not lost here, it does have roots that can be worked
with, just need to hold it together.

I'm won't vote on this til you're finished.

Lot to like
I like its structre tons. You've got a good dichotomy of
machinery noise backing the accoustic. Perhaps I'm going
too deep, but it reminds of the humanity struggling
against a modern, more mechanized world. The piano
break is like a glipse of a world without that, before it
comes crashing. There's hope and hopelessness in the
same words and the same part of the song. Then to end it
with just an accoustic...nice touch.

The mix did break on me, specifically at the end I got
some crackle with the accoustic. I really liked the digital
effects, and I think it's going to be one of those things
people are going to love or hate with no middle ground.
There was a bit too much echo on the live drum parts, for
my tastes.

Everything said, I like what you did with this. Lots of
potential to take it different places and take the listener
along as well.

It's Happening
I wasn't blown away by the electronics break in the middle. Well, I wasn't blown away by the electronics in general but the song as a whole I think is very cool and I think your voice is great for it. Some production work needed to prevent distortion, buzzes, etc., but I like it nevertheless.

Hey man,
Interesting song- totally unique in about every way that
counts. Glad you posted it this way. It'll be interesting to
hear which, if any, changes you make. Like it fine the way
it is though!

I am listening to all three versions
as directed in your forum posts. My initial reaction to the first one is that the "beeping" doesn't fit.

I haven't heard all three yet, but maybe a stripped down version just you and the guitar might sound cool.
