Description:
another song from our debut album, this one is about our singer choosing music over law school. also, there's a big chorus of ME at the end. i'm quite proud of the bass playing on the track as well... i'd like to point out that there is no guitar on this track, just violin baby (that is true of all m-lab tracks until further notice)
Lyrics:
when the city came calling my name i took a long look at the letter
i took a train, threw the letter away, cause i knew that i knew better
i chose the track that set you in my path, and you let my voice be your
voice
i let your hands be my hands in a pact, a trust, a choice
i wanted nothing more than everything fast, you know i’ve never been afraid
but now i think about the time that’s past and the decisions that we’ve made
i look for signs that everything will be fine and i come up empty-handed
i think tonight i might be losing my mind, maybe you could understand it
but you’re too far to break my fall and pull me into safety
you’re too far, stay where you are
this time you cannot save me
don’t think i’m too far
just because i’m out of sight
i could be there tomorrow
there’s one last train tonight
tomorrow i might be all right
i know, i’ll be satisfied tomorrow
but tonight goes on and on and on and on and –
i catch my breath and i try to forget about the letter i threw out
my voice unsteady, should i give it up already? i am drowning in doubt
now you’re too far to break my fall and pull me into safety
you’re too far, stay where you are
this time you cannot save me
don’t think i’m too far
just because i’m out of sight
i could be there tomorrow
there’s one last train tonight
last call: i’m reaching out before i fall
you stop me at the door, say “hold tight”
i’m gonna try
tomorrow may be fine but tonight goes on and on
and on and on and on
it goes on and on and on and on
don’t think i’m too far
just because i’m out of sight
i will be there tomorrow
(tomorrow’s all right)
there’s one last train tonight

I'm glad someone turned me on to your tracks. No offense
but I'm not sure you should be here. I think I need to be
hearing your name elsewhere in the world. This is
definitely on the next level. Good luck. [ Reply to This ]

Excellent bass &mdash 04/26/05 - 05:34:30 PM
This is one tough band. No weak links here. I love how the
piano often drives things, but the bass is exceptional on
this track. Fantastic. [ Reply to This ]
After the intro is over &mdash 04/26/05 - 08:06:23 PM
I take it from your comments that you are not the lead singer. This is a good song, but I want to let you know that the introduction is not as good as the rest of the song and the way the lead singer starts singing is kind of whiney and doesn't have the same power as the music, especially in how he says the word "choice." But I like the song, especially the other singers. [ Reply to This ]
After the intro is over &mdash 04/26/05 - 08:10:24 PM
i never liked the way he recorded this song. live he just nails it
everytime, never sounds whiney, just perfect amounts of power and
grace. but here, not quite right. thank you for listening.

original! &mdash 04/28/05 - 01:54:36 PM
I thought the music was great, very imaginative, fantastic bass. I liked the quaity of the vocalists' voice, but wasn't crazy about the phrasing. Overall, very well done, excellent sound. [ Reply to This ]

thanks for the compliments. i agree about the singer, but this was how
he wanted to do it, and i'm not the one who has to listen to my recorded
voice over and over and over and over...but live he really nails this one.

kewl... &mdash 04/28/05 - 08:35:15 PM
You had me at the first bass note. Bass playing is wicked
awesome. I agree with a few of the other comments about
the vocalist's diction... not to keen on that. Kinda weird.
But the track is pretty cool nonetheless. I especially like
that "moulin rouge - come what may" part that starts
"don't think I'm too far...". The contrast of this section is
quite wonderful. It's also pretty cool that you've got a
violin instead of a guitar in the mix... though I'd love to
hear it played a little more like a violin... great track! [ Reply to This ]

the violin.

Point proven &mdash 04/28/05 - 09:34:12 PM
in that you can have a powerful rock song with out guitar.
Yeah- took a minute for that to sink in. Terrific song. My
guess is it won't be too long before you have to pull your
tunes from MJ to satisfy the label suits.
We'll enjoy it while it lasts. Good luck! [ Reply to This ]

Drama Rock &mdash 04/29/05 - 07:24:42 AM
Having heard this tune on your CD, as well as live, the
reformatting to mp3 has emasculated the bass sound.
Still, such nice movement between sections, unique and
consistent harmonic chording, and inventive lines. Love
your band's cross genre theatrical writing. This song, with
the use of all three singers, has very nice variation. More
backing vocals! Let that boy have more solos! [ Reply to This ]
Drums at the beginning sound like &mdash 04/29/05 - 07:35:13 PM
"Wipe out" by the Surfaris. Like the vox, good bass sound too. The singer sounds a bit like a more cultured Axel Rose. Very strong voice. Piano riff sounds a bit like "Walking in Memphis" in places, but I like that so it's a good thing.
Nice dynamic changes too.
Yeah, very cool track.

This is really, really good. I'd never have known of you but you were kind enough to comment on a few of my tunes. I'm glad you did, because now I can check out more of your stuff.
