Description:
Tango has always been a huge form of art to me. This is an attempt to dive into this artform. I play everything on this track + vocals. Just got an acoustic guitar! :) This song has guitars, bass, vocals. The rest is samplers + Vodka.

Lyrics:
[ tango ]

he's a king of his own damn tango, he's man of solid words
he's drunk and are dancing with his shadow, round and around in his world
he raises his glass to the others, and drinks for truth and sin
he may have some tears in his eyes my friend, but god, he knows how to sing

he can sing

he's a king of his own damn tango, he's traveled and seen the world
he's drunk and he ask this lady: "my love would you like to dance?"
she ignores him with a high-score silence, and a sight that could kill a man
he may not be lucky with woman, but god, he knows how to sing

he's a king of his own damn tango, he's a man behind a cigarette
he leaves the bar at closing hour, walks with his shadow to forget
he falls asleep on a side-walk, he's sleeping in the rain
he dreams about the good times, he dreams that he can sing

Really fun vocals! The guitar sounds very up close and I'd bbe curious to hear a version with only two violins backing it rather than the big strings. It might create the impression of a performance in a little cantina off in the desert. The tuning sounds a little off somewhere, but that sort of adds a charm to the piece. Grunge tango?

You've been tangoed! &mdash 04/28/05 - 01:05:52 AM
Yes this is a really fun track...lots of charm to the vocals
particularly the 'he can sing' bit with the backing vocals.
Nice acoustic guitar sound and overall feel

this is great! &mdash 04/28/05 - 10:13:47 AM
I kept hearing this as a possible Tom Waits tune...I really like this; the words paint a really great picture, as they usually do in your songs.

Funny! &mdash 04/28/05 - 08:29:31 PM
I was going to remark on the rather pedestrian
interpretation of the tango rhythm, but I guess that goes
with the lyrics. Good job!

Well, where shall I begin? First, this is my first attemtp on
Tango music in a very long time. It was a fun experience
and I am truly in love again.

It is a bit out of tune, on purpose. I used sounds that was
sampled by a very old untuned Italian accordion. I used
to own a few accordion myself many years ago and are
thinking of getting one soon.

You are correct, this is not "real" tango and Tom Wait's
has btw always been a big influence. Another influence is
Finnish Tango, some Swedish too, which tends to have a
bit more rythm and drums than for example Argentina
Tango does.

Like I said, a first attempt, more to come!

Thanks,

Mikki

Great tango rhythm. &mdash 05/03/05 - 08:53:41 PM
I'm working on a tango myself and love what you did with the rhythm here...it almost has an Eastern European influence or something. I can't listen to it anymore lest I inadvertently steal your very catchy hook!

Go ahead and steal! &mdash 05/04/05 - 06:14:20 AM
Thanks for the comments! Great, I can't wait to hear what
you are working on! Don't worry about stealing, what comes
to your heart is yours. Tango to me is about the heart, and
mind. About telling a story and make it as truthful as
possible.
