Description:
iGStudio (Ilya) did a remix of the Smooth As Silk collaboration he and McBoy did with me, and here is the result. I hope you enjoy it!

Lyrics:
Smooth as silk, slick as oil
Sly as a fox, you're never true or loyal
You're a rake, a bounder, a rascal, a cad
Why, oh, why do I like my boys bad?

You set your sights in that smoky room
Helpless as a kitten, I sauntered your way
You smiled, you laughed, enjoying my doom
I couldn't resist that black hair touched with grey

::Refrain::

You put on airs; lived like a king
I thought you were the man that you pretended to be
The bills came in and I paid everything
A wink, a kiss, and a slap on the tush was your currency

::Refrain::
::McBoy glides along the ivories::

You stole my heart, and all my rings
You took my natural pearls but skipped the cultivated
I should have known I'd lose all my things
You wouldn't even breathe without being compensated

::Refrain::

::iGStudio smokes some swanky sax::

::Refrain::

I don't know...
Loverboy...
Come to Mama.

More gin and hold the tonic &mdash 04/28/05 - 11:40:06 AM
Yeah... that's hot. Loved the original, love this mix. Great vocals and instrumental performances, fun lyrics, smokey character, terrific ending! I don't know if the drums were loops or midi, but I thought they were also very good.

Thank you, chik! Ilya's note below gives the origins of the drums. I'll get your
drink for you now.

Lots of velvet here &mdash 04/28/05 - 12:53:42 PM
Is there a smokier sax around? Great, laid back
performances from everyone. Very cool.Understated. Is
that McBoy on the piano?

I need to check the original, but this was sublime.

Thank you, atwood! That is indeed McBoy on the piano, and no, there isn't a
smokier sax on Earth, I'd venture to say. I was so lucky to get these two
amazing musicians to play on my song.

the vocals blend perfectly in this version & the added
length is nice, too-big upps to iG. it's hard to put my
untrained ear on it, but the real sax & piano completely
polish this with a layer of authenticity. really great, kids

A bit of info: &mdash 04/29/05 - 04:43:50 AM
This particular remix is not drasically different from the
original collaboration Joanna posted acouple of month
ago, just some very minor adjustments - mostly the solos
(after putting it to rest for a while, I listened to it again
and suddenly become annoyed by several repeated
passages in my solo, so I killed those, then went through
the whole thing, fixed Mcboy's solo, where it was a bit
competing - level-wise - overlapping the vocal, and
pulled the coda chord 1/8 back to spice it up).
The drums are custom loops from Mcboy's collection. The
bass is GB loops, we didn't change it, it works well.

When I first wrote this, I couldn't stop singing take after take simply because I
was having so darn much fun. I can't thank you enough for your hard work.
You made my little slice of joy into something so much more.

I don't know what was changed on this version over
the last, but it sounds great. You know, maybe this
is better than the frisky piano loops after all. The
laid back vibe and live instrumentation are really
classy.

Sounds great, Joanna. You've got just the right kind of
voice for this sort of tune.

Great keys, McBoy!

Sax from igStudio is wonderful as always.

Although the song is classic standards writing and the
piano solo is excellent, but perhaps a little too loud, the
piano comping throughout is subpar and the vocal
performance is slightly pitchy for a professional release.
On Macjams, however, it is very entertaining.

Thank you for the feedback, mullet. Part of the problem was probably
because the musicians (piano and sax) were laying down their parts to a voice
track that had already been recorded. That's sort of opposite of the usual
method, and more difficult.
