Description
This is about the umpteenth version of this recorded on various media, and it's still not quite there. Much more laid back on this one, making it all that much more difficult to meld some things, but what the %^$%*&, gotta try something different.

It's a lot of time spent doing a variety of things on a song that had its genesis based on my girlfriend's — now wife's — college town and the phone number off a styrofoam beer coozy I was using one spring at Lake Havasu. Give a listen and lemme know what you think. Danke folks.

Lyrics
Snow falls on the Rockies, outside her window
As she thinks about the letter she has wrote
Far away to Antigua, for summer's gone and broke
Her love lies in the ocean, now she's looking for some rope
Something to tie her herself to the one that got away
Was it only imagination that finally led astray
Promised he would follow before the snow could fall
Snow outside her window tears that guarantee apart

Hold on tight, hold it loose and try to make it last
Bring life back to this sleepy college town
She checks her window hourly for her shadow when she says
You promised you'd come back to the 303

Carolina sunsets after the hurricane's eye
Thinks about her nightly how the time began to fly
Locked in an office, reaching for the clouds
Memories fade as heroes fall and die
Long drives don't seem to ease his weary mind
Fragrant flowers cause the temperature to rise
Never make a promise your heart won't let you keep
Best to let the past go drift off to deeper sleep

Hold it lose, hold it tight give into your better side
Say you've got to go chuck the rest aside
She is waiting by her window and speaks of it again
You promised you'd come back to the 303

Spring time in the Rockies begins to thaw the ice
Water runs beneath her bedroom window sill
Colorado winters can freeze long-distance lines
Sunshine comes around and hope it springs divine
Like an entry to a room where someone forgot the key
Time heals loneliness as the snow fades its way
Clear back to the river and onto the plains
Her love lies waiting across the see again

Hold on tight, hold it loose and try to make it last
Bring life back to this sleepy college town
She checks her window hourly for her shadow when she says
You promised you'd come back to the 303

Nice
Well done. Irony!

A little bright on the high end. Perhaps boost the lows a
bit.

Sounds cool
But it needs more bottom. Check out using the Audio
Unit for graphic EQ. You can punch up the bass without it
getting boomy.

Sounds cool
I think you both nailed what I wasn't particularly pleased with. I
usually rely on a humbucker and a single coil on dual guitar tracks. I went
without and added a really bright 12 string to the mix. I also wasn't too happy
with the mixdown I did. I think if I lay in another track with a fatter guitar it
might solve the brightness problem. Something that rips on the intro.

Good comments. Very appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to listen. Gives
me something to tweak and keep in mind for the next offering.

Good song, but...
the vocals seem to be floating above the music. Fix that and you have a great song here!

Vocals always an issue
Thanks breezer for listening. Vocals have always been a "work in progress" for me. I'll try pushing them down on a mix and see if I can blend them into the song more. Also gives me a better idea when I'm flying all over the map. I tend to do that. Often. Thanks for the comments.

Good Story Song
Well thought out lyrics on this song. I would try to
emphasize them more. What I kept hearing in my head for
this song was a Lou Reed kind of thing. That is where the
rhythm guitar would be turned way down and a nice bass
line would carry the chord structure with your percussion
keeping the beat of course. My personal taste anyway. I
would turn down the guitar a bit for sure and eq it to get
a more balanced sound. But I really like the way you tell a
story - nice job.

Good Story Song
Thanks for the comments and compliments, Bronco. Hadn't thought of taking
it in that direction, but I hear where you're going. I've done that kind of thing
on a few, as yet unposted, songs and it does fit my voice a hair better.
Definitely working on a more equalized sound of the guitars. I wrote this
strictly on an accoustic and that's where a lot of the strumming comes in on
the rhythm part. Still in the process of learning to translate accoustic to
recorded electric and learning that space between notes can a good thing.
Thanks for taking the time to listen and for the comments. Always
appreciated.

Good tune
I also liked the story to this one. The jangling guitar suits
the vibe. Great imagery and a cool groove.

I got this music bug a long time ago and tried to do something about it, but nothing ever seemed to pan out. Too many egos and not enough money for a meandering rhythm guitarist — as Tom Petty says, I like leads, but I really like rhythm guitar. ... [see more]
