Description:
A little tune I wrote after my most recent visit to Las Vegas. Somehow it seemed correct to channel the spirit of Tom Waits... wait, he’s not dead... anyway, here it is in all it’s obtuse vapid arid density...

Lyrics:

I went to Vegas and it sucked out my soul
left me as interesting as a big black hole
my eyes were filled with all the bling, bling, bling
but now I’m just tryin’ to get my soul from the giant sucky thing

Lost Vegas
Lost Vegas

hit 4 aces on a poker machine,
drank 7 appltinis, turned an interesting shade of green
almost lost it on the top of the world
but was saved just in time by a beautiful silicone girl

I really like the way you incorperated the casino and slot machine sounds into this.

I too liked the sounds of the casino &mdash 05/05/05 - 06:55:36 AM
Dirty, filthy and utterly...

Brilliant!

Thanks!

Very Nicely Done

You sure captured the spirit of losing in Las Vegas.

Mr. I.S.
Love the gritty feel of this song. down and out groove, brother. It's
where all the cool cats eventually crash, burn and write good tunes.
I'm a Mr. Waits channeler myself. I'll use Mr. W in someway in all my
tunes. Also, any dude who can where a feather boa as well as you can is
alright in my book. I hope it (the boa) is pink.

Cool take on the sin bin. Coulda lived without the pinky
floyd influences but still the nice bluesy approach was
something I hadn't heard before wrt Las Vegas. An
interesting counterpoint to Gram Parsons and Elvis
interpretations of Vegas life. Took me back to O'Shea's.

nice voice, kind of like wolf man jack.

Kind of a novelty tune.

Gee...this makes me wanna pack my bags and... &mdash 05/08/05 - 02:16:45 PM
...get the heck outta Las Vegas!

nice use of sound effects. The gruff voice is an added use
of that uncomfortable grittiness the song portrays.

well done :)

My Favourite! &mdash 05/26/05 - 09:31:48 AM

Now I can honestly put my hand on my heart and say that
I LOVE this song! Really, really good. It's playing for the
3rd time while I write this...

Excellent use of sound effects. That loop that comes in on
the 5th bar is very, very catchy; it makes the song for me.

Good theme, too. The only thing that hits me is this: you
didn't fully use your excellent voice on this; I would have
preferred it if you'd really crooned this one. Of course, I'm
sure this is the effect you were after. But this style kind of
gives me the impression that Spike is telling us: "Hey, this
is me just being funny again and not taking my talent too
seriously".

I'm really worried about offending - and it's taking a lot of
guts to post these comments. I'd be very interested in
your thoughts.

My favourite of your songs. Excellent.

Cool &mdash 05/30/05 - 08:57:11 PM
Just like your other tunes, there is nothing I don't like
about it. You incorporate so many interesting elements
(great for ADD ppl like me) but without getting too busy.
You have an amazing talent at producing memorable
FFFF'in s**t.

I was wishing that there would be a contrasting brassy
shout section in there somewhere, but hey, its easy to
look at the Eiffel Tower and complain about the lack of air
conditioning.

My God... &mdash 05/31/05 - 09:11:55 PM
Nice, very nice. Actually I like Las Vegas. Perhaps it's because
I was raised in a very strict environment. You are one smart
song stylist. Let me know if you have any released CD's I'd
love to get a copy. I suspect you do must have released
something judgeing by the quality of your work. Very
inspired by your music my friend. Keep it up.

Nice Sound &mdash 08/30/05 - 10:32:43 AM
The sound of the enviroment of a real cassino is a great
idea. It puts me in the song's universe.

Good Job.

is that a slot machine in the background? love that loop.

What I did was search out different gambling sounds. There's a slot machine,
shuffling cards, dice being rolled on a felt table and a spinning roulette wheel. It
was a lot of fun putting this together. The lyrics and experience come from a
real life event - only one thing was added for effect...
Thanks for the good word!

Fave ! &mdash 10/31/05 - 02:33:41 PM
This one might be my favorite among your songs. From the double bass
to the little sampled sounds, it really succeeds in conveying the ambience
that fits the lyrics. (Indeed close to Tom Waits' world)
Congratulations

goddamit! &mdash 12/23/05 - 11:25:55 AM
... I wish I'd thought of that title -I'm just finishing a similar themed song (that includes references to 'silicone chicks' - obviously we went to the same bars).

The bling rhyme killed me - fantastic.

Short and to the point, this is another great track, and a great yearning vocal.

Top hole.

Nice! &mdash 04/11/08 - 06:01:24 AM
Very nice vocal delivery. I never expected that style from you. Your vocal here sounds deep bluesy one... Fun to listen to this piece my friend. Thanks for sharing.

Take Care
