Description:
probably the most solidly written song on the record i've been posting from. the lyrics are a personal favorite. still bothers me that i copped from john mellencamp for the bassline.
Lyrics:
lover, lay your lies on meand we’ll make believe.
i am open now
i am ready to receive.
lover, lay your lies on me
lover, lay your lies on me
there is a signature passion that leaves me constantly crawling up to you,
and as it traces a pattern, a significant pain awaits.
this is the avenue i walk with you -
this cold, unlighted street.
i just keep moving my feet.
we took off in a hurry, and we launched into the atmosphere.
you tell me “no need to worry,” but it’s a free-fall toward the land.
don’t count on the parachute of perfect truth
to steer us from the sea.
that is not how it’s going to be.
lover, lay your lies on me...
i accepted the mission, and my directive i take by telephone:
when you say that you want me, you do not mean me alone.
well, i don’t care what you do, i don’t care who
i want you to feel free,
even if it destroys me.
lover, lay your lies on me...
‘cause when you tell me the truth
it sometimes feels like abuse.
like i surrender to you,
and then you strike out with your honesty.
there are rules to the game i must obey,
i will not ask you to choose
but i’m feeling
contracted
reacting to you.
you make your decisions but
i too can choose.
you take what you want,
i’ll take what i need,
we’ll enter each other and live in our dream.
my body,
my mind,
my time
and my word –
this is all that i have to give
lover, lay your lies on me
and we’ll make believe.
i am open now
i am ready to receive,
i will be naive.
just say i’m the only one
the only one you see.
oh, lover, lay your lies on me
lover, lay your lies on me

i'm sure cougar won't mind...hehhehhehh....solid soulful intro....slappin/poppin bass propels and punctuates the song.......vocals are soulful....violin is a nice touch, quite unexpected but works in well.......solid composition.....onward!
Peter Greenstone
Sounds great. You and the band must have quite a following at the places where you play. Wish I could be at one of your gigs. Great writing too.
Emily Rohm
Love the violin part on this. Definitely won't be mistaken as a squeaky guitar on this one! Nice combination of sounds and timbres. Love it. Love it.
aclarke
Real good, in fact. Excellent vocals, piano and bass was very cool. Doesn't sound like you borrowed the whole line... just a bit. Love how you use violin in your music instead of guitar. The last rock band I remember doing this was UK in the very early 80's. You do it better.
Lyrically- this is fantastic!
Jim Bouchard
Sounds like a bummer of a relationship...mmmm Seriously I like it because you can really easily understand what the song is saying. Really great sound.

This song sends chills across my skin. Not only is it GREAT music, the lyrics are so true. "Lover, lay your lies on me... ‘cause when you tell me the truth
it sometimes feels like abuse." And the performance is wonderful. I like that the fiddle gets a clear solo on this on. The pace is perfect. What a precious song. COuld be in a musical, could be in an arena rock show, could be a hit one day. Excellent all around.

You have a fantastic voice and I like the way it carries the song. I also like the use of the violin.
All in all an absolutl gem of a track,
I hope it doesnt get lost in the archives here on Mjs it' should certainly be at the top of anyones playlist..

Everything works — the mix, the performance, the passion!
This is one of the best songs I have heard on this site. Not only is the the music so well performed and arranged, but those lyrics! I found myself so intersted in the words you used and how you wove them togehter. Very intelligently written on all counts. The layering of instruments (piano, violin, etc.) as the song progresses moves the listener forward and into the singer's song right to the end.
So well done.

the most professional sounding tunes I've heard since I've
been here. Brilliant lyrics and arrangement. Flawless
performances. Radio ready is an understatement. Love
when the piano kicks in. And the violin scorches into the
soft transition perfectly. Really strong submission. Very
well crafted song. Gonna have to go check out the rest of
yer tunes. Thanks for sharing your music here!
Mystified
Wow. Excellent on all levels.
Thank you for sharing this!

I think the temptation in a song like this would be to make it bigger,
overlaying a wall of sound as it builds. You guys resisted and kept this
honest. A real club feel.
Great fiddle.
Wow. Like Emily, I love the violin, but the entire song is
excellent.

Neat tune.
Nice beat with the tune.
Like the drums
Vocals sound nice, nice violin there.
Like how you work your words.
Your style has Tobin feeling as well, at least I think which to
me is quite a compliment.
twonicus
i definetly take it as a compliment.

Kevensor
I liked everything about this. Great vocals, Great music and Great performance!
DL/10S!

Executed perfectly...that violin adds a lot of
sophistication. Your voice sounds like your father
when you sing (although not as deep)... because it is
so well articulated.
twonicus
thank you, tho i'm not the lead singer...i think that's the first time
brody's been compared to tobin, usually he gets bon jovi.

This is one of the best songs I have ever heard. Amazing.
Sad and surrendering and hopeful and pretty. This is your
best one yet.
ChrisSly
dittos dittos dittos all around. My only beef with this is in
the vocals. Great voice this guy has, but he's pronouncing
his lyrics so roundly and well that he sounds almost like
he's putting on a Brit accent. Other than that, this stuff
rocks, and I'll definitely try to catch you when your in the
city again.
Del
Great title. Very good internal rhymes, nonobvious use of
rhymings and sounds. Very good lyrics. INventive song
construction. Very mature writing.
Macaudion
This is an excellent piece! I think that you have arrived...
Cydniko
I thought the whole peice waw great AGAIN!, I too love
your style, great changeups, the violins the piano all make
for a GIANT SOUND!
MowMeDown
This song has a fine build, like emotions running on their
own, like a short story unfolding. Fine, fine writing. Nice
fiddle too.

I am lucky to find this song.
Beautiful and very unique!
Timeless, I believe.

I favored this song a while back when I first came here and I find that I continue to go back to it and listen to it over and over. I think this is a great song. Well written and sung, catchy lyrics and just a great job throughout. Really enjoy it. Thanks!
