Description:
When I first heard the instrumental “If you want” by LillNisse, I was impressed by its buoyancy and cheerfulness, and I immediately heard the title of the song as lyrics.
When I sent a "sketch" of the song with harmonies to LillNisse, he offered to re-record it and extended a section to include a guitar 'solo.'

My interpretation is similar to a song that might have been sung in the early 1900’s America--simple and rustic.
The simplicity of the words, with repetition, is intended to denote humorous and affectionate banter—similar to other songs of that era.
I hope you enjoy my setting to this delightful tune from LillNisse.

So much thanks goes to you, Johannes, for posting this song and inviting others to add to it. Thank you!!

Lyrics:
If you want,
I’ll be there,
There to share,
I’ll be there for you

And it’s true
(if you do
(want me to)
I’ll be true to you.

Can’t imagine life with any other,
Trav’ling down life’s dusty road
Hand-in-hand we’ll find and we’ll discover
All life has to hold.

If you see,
You and me…
Happily,
I’ll be there for you.

And we two,
Me and you,
We will do
All we want to do.

Everybody tells a different story
In the things they wish to do.
And the tale I want to tell the whole world
Is the one with you.

And I’ll care
Care for you
If you want
Me to love you, too.

Can’t imagine life with any other,
Trav’ling down life’s dusty road
Hand-in-hand we’ll find and we’ll discover
All life has to hold.

If you want,
I'll be there.
There to share;
I'll be there for you.

Beautiful vocal duet &mdash 05/07/05 - 06:33:47 PM
Very enjoyable, great harmonies. Very lively performance, Crisp and sharp. LillNisse, great clean turn-of-the-century guitar styling. I can image a palor setting with gas lamps, echos from of the past . Thanks

Sounds great. You really did a great job with the vocal melody, getting those harmonies like the days of old. I remember when this guitar melody was put up on MJ originally for someone to take and add lyrics/vocals to. I'm so glad you took the offer and made this song out of it. The mix sounds really nice, like you're live together.

LilNisse, lovely guitar work. Played so very well, too.

is an exceptional glimpse into the goodness of life and
love. Such powerful lyrics and emotive performance. I'm
captivated instantly. Beautiful collaboration that sounds
like a natural fit. Sweet, honest, and drenched with
brilliance and talent. Mystified, you are gifted. Thanks for

I really like the tune. I think it's great addition to MJ.
We need more happy tunes. Good work LilNisse. Love the ornamentation of the guitar as well. Mysti's singing is so much fun here. She has a very wide musical pallet.

Good going

Perfect lyrics for this &mdash 05/07/05 - 07:53:27 PM
When I first heard LillNisse's original guitar piece, I thought it sounded like it
was written by an early 2oth Century American, instead of a Swedish guitarist
in 2005. Such a joyful tune. Cat, you have added the perfect lyrics, and the
vocals, as usual, are excellent. Thanks for posting it. Great work, Johannes!

I have to say &mdash 05/08/05 - 10:33:01 AM
that this is not normally my type of music...but I've
listened three times and its definitely growing on me! As
ever the vocals are lovely, production is good and that's
some nice acoustic picking going on

New meaning to the word "retro" &mdash 05/08/05 - 10:04:59 PM
I can just see Doris Day and Debbie Reynolds singing this
as they're cleaning strawberries and dreaming about the
man they'll marry.

Nice harmonies, by the way.

Vaudeville / pre-WWII parlor music &mdash 05/09/05 - 09:17:45 AM
Love the feeling of Vaudeville, the pre-WWII parlor music,
the lightness of your phrase-ending vocal figures. Such a
wonderful melding of talents. Stunning guitar, with
directness and surety. Playful vocals to match, with
delightful harmonies. This track has some pitchy
moments which I've never heard in your voice before.
Bring ing up the guitar at the end was a nice touch. A
delight. Great song art, speaks louder than words.

Very well done &mdash 05/09/05 - 03:57:00 PM
Very pretty, and quite theatrical. I'm always in awe of
your precise harmonies, Myst. And I'm a big fan of
Johannes' guitar playing. A great collaboration, both
of you!

Warm and Personable &mdash 05/31/05 - 06:24:43 PM
A very warm and comforting piece. Here music is being
put to a very direct and positive use, no doubt. This is
very charming and it has nice friendly humable (i made
the last word up) melodic phrasings. Very special. You had
to have enjoyed putting this together and as well, you
must be proud of it. A very nice way to be on all accounts.
I loved the harmonizing. Are you playing the guitar?
Everything is well done... Okay, so I'm crying as I post (I
was just a little too embarrassed to mention) Thanks!

It sounds like you are very concentrated &mdash 01/07/06 - 03:51:24 PM
You have worked very good on my daddys tune. It sounds like you are
very concentrated. I like this. You are getting an eight. It sounds unusually
good. And the picture is very good to.

I get some... &mdash 10/17/06 - 04:54:01 AM
vibes that this song would have suited the film "brother where art thou" just perfect. It sure sounds old school with the finger picking and the vocals sounds as if sung by some one back in 1921....very nice!
