This is really good! I wouldn't have known it was a loop-based tune if you hadn't told me. It's brilliantly arranged, and just goes to show how good they can sound in the hands of a skilled musician. Not surprisingly it's the bass that really shines out ... you know exactly how to get the most warmth and resonance from it. It's a funny thing on MacJams how nobody ever goes back and listens to your early songs. The MJ community is really missing out here! This is really good! Thanks Rebsie - during our chat last night I came back and had a listen too and was pleasantly surprised. It's been a long while since I listened to this, and it does stand up fairly well I guess. you're holding back Talk about deeply groovy. - Man Neil, I REALLY like this. Alot. Very intellegent piece. I think that you should repost this so that everyone will have a chance to hear it. I mean, don't do it while I have one posted. LOL - Oh, must of been my insecurities lurking about - This great Neil. And you have the advantage of being able to jam some guitar on this just to repost, but the way it is, I lyke it... For as much as I've fiddled around w/ GB, I still have no clue as to how you did this. No idea, not a single clue... Thanks for the invite, it's one that I truly enjoyed and appreciate. - Cyd Check out my latest song called 123 iGetU

you're holding back Thanks Dion - a, for visiting and b, for such a nice comment. This was posted (I just realised) on the 10th anniversary of my dad passing away - funny the things you notice isn't it? From memory, this is simply the building of a basic theme through adding various loop elements to reach some sort of musical conclusion. I guess it didn't get much of a look-in because I was an unknown name at the time ("what's a jiguma?" they asked)! I had planned to get a bluesy female vox on this, but didn't know anyone with that sort of voice at the time - I do now, and just might get a vocal version up once I write some lyrics. The "avec vous" part is just a JP2 loop I think. I didn't use any effects because at that stage I didn't even know they existed in GB. An exercise for the future! I just had to check this out! Thanks for having a listen Mike - I was so lacking in confidence in my playing and singing at this stage (especially my singing!!!!!!!), hence the loops. I enjoy coming back to this. Comments from the anniversary post Posted again after my first 12 months - here are the comments: First of all: Authored by: Einarus on Tue, 9 May 2006 05:35:51 -0500 Happy anniversary! It's always fun to listen to people's early tracks and see how they've changed and/or developed with time. You've changed a whole lot, apparently! :) First of all: Authored by: jiguma on Tue, 9 May 2006 17:45:17 -0500 Thanks for listening Einar. This song is what I did when I had no confidence in my ability to play real instruments and sing. This seemed to work OK, so I started singing and playing for real again. When you've had 25 years away from music, the loops are a safe way to test the water again. Neil Impact and easing. Authored by: Tadashi Togawa on Tue, 9 May 2006 07:18:27 -0500 Is this originator jiguma? Or, Is it new jiguma? I was surprised. Very interesting sound and composition. Your different one side. The code progress is wonderful. I came to want to play the guitar. By the way, Does kangaroos fight? Impact and easing. Authored by: jiguma on Tue, 9 May 2006 14:27:53 -0500 Thanks Tadashi, you are very welcome to play guitar on this (or anything else) anytime! The malekangaroos fight in the mating season - trying to look good for the girls : ) Neil Oh man, I so glad that you posted this Authored by: Cydniko on Tue, 9 May 2006 15:41:43 -0500 I think that I owe just one copy and paste Neil, so here are my words from the original posting of this tune - I think that everyone should consider posting a tune that got overlooked before they became more well known here - I think that this would be a great idea... Thanks, Neil you're holding back Authored by: Cydniko on Fri, 3 Feb 2006 15:13:04 -0600 Talk about deeply groovn. - Man Neil, I REALLY like this. Alot. Very intellegent piece. Are you in France yet? Neil Oh man, I so glad that you posted this Authored by: Cydniko on Tue, 9 May 2006 19:12:56 -0500 Yes Neil, I have been to Paris; I measured up a two story flat, (to produce some pretty drwgs for a client/friend) I painted the city for two nights while I was there (I used an awful lot of painting) and then to NYC twice, and I am home w/ plans to leave again tomorrow, or Thursday (I don't know what today is) to head to Washington DC for two days and then back again - Would you like for me to drop off a few words; possibly a song to our head cowboy while I'm in DC... Do you think that I have a dependency problem, here... Get up Oh man, I so glad that you posted this Authored by: jiguma on Tue, 9 May 2006 19:40:17 -0500 I suspect you know what I'd like you to pass on to your (/our) fearless leader! Painting Paris - must have used a big brush! Neil Happy anniversary, Neil! Authored by: Ejh on Tue, 9 May 2006 17:37:51 -0500 Now, see, this is really neat. I actually got into MacJams with the notion in the back of my head that I'd end up making tunes more like this... new and different from anything I'd played around with before... You actually did it... Now I want to hearing the morphing between this and what we've come to know as the jiguma (prounounced 'ji-GOO-ma) sound... What will that sound like, precious?...we wonders, yes, we wonders... Very cool, Neil... Ed Happy anniversary, Neil! Authored by: jiguma on Tue, 9 May 2006 17:52:27 -0500 Thanks for dropping by for the history lesson Ed. After this little ditty, I posted "I Have Wandered" which had a vocal (of sorts), 12 string (real), bass (real) and mandolins, electric guitars and a few other things (unreal). If you decide to listen to it, I'd suggest the second or third version - the first is a tad embarassing! I did a few similar to "Avec Vous" - "Defenestration" and another one at http:// www.macjams.com/song/12917 as my alter ego (who got bored and only posted one song!).I enjoyed doing these, but find the real playing more satisfying, Neil Happy MJ Anni-birthday! Authored by: The Conductor on Wed, 10 May 2006 01:31:56 -0500 Yeah---a lot of us have come a very long way Neil. It's fun to hear your creative energy in search of an outlet here. Good stuff. Of course, I much prefer the new, improved and Lemon (or is it Kiwi?) fresh Jiguma of today! Many happy Mac-returns of the day! Maybe not ........ Authored by: jiguma on Sat, 13 May 2006 18:23:44 -0500 Maybe this didn't get much of a look because nobody liked it much. Oh well, the historical significance is now past and I can relegate to the archives. Thanks for commenting everyone. Now, back to some jiguma music. Shocker!! Okay, I meant what I just posted about coming back to an earlier post of yours, but I really didn't expect to find this. It's hard to picture you listening to dance music, let alone composing it, but you're full of surprises, mister. This is very danceable and nicely produced.
