Description:
a longer one-and louder too!

Lyrics:

in some wild, summer field,
there's a watch unwound...
there's a face and there's a name,
but they were never found...

and in the streets, the words did ring
and echo all around...
-but they were taken by the wind
and they were never found...

out beyond the highway,
there are tall pines all around...
and in some nameless river,
there are stones to weigh her down...

in the church and in the square,
they bowed their heads and prayed...
but those who left did not return
-lord, they were not saved...

and in the streets, the words did ring
and echo all around...
-but they were taken by the wind
and they were never found...

and louder! &mdash 05/10/05 - 02:01:34 AM
how was the previous version when you say this one is louder :) really, i had to turn up my speakers to the max to hear what appears to be potentially great song. dude you can sing, great voice. i liked melody a lot. bass was distorted - but that can be my poor pc speakers, don't know for sure. i do like how the song opens on "to weigh her down" part.

and louder! &mdash 05/11/05 - 10:43:19 PM
Great song, but yes the volumn is way to low. I had to crank it up to hear it too.
Awesome voice!

Is that right?

A jonx epic in comparison... &mdash 05/10/05 - 03:59:58 AM
... to your other fine miniatures. You have a beautiful style
of enigmatic songwriting. This works excellently as all
your songs seem to. I like the way the "stones weigh
down" section isn't so much a chorus as just a central
pivot for the song to wind up to, and down from. All your
songs are good enough to be out there enjoying
commercial success. My only niggle is a personal bugbear
of mine. I don't like the construction " the words did
ring...". Your lyrics have a sort of naturalism that - for
me- jars with that faux-folksiness. But that's such a minor
criticism...

Focus, jonx, focus! &mdash 05/10/05 - 05:44:56 AM
I found my mind drifting during this one. Kept looking at
my watch. Isn't it over yet??? I have things to do. You
expect me to sit and listen to a 3 minute song?

Sorry, Swanny, you missed a running joke jonx and I have re: his miniature
songs. But I'm sure he appreciates you jumping and standing up for him!

Crafted song writing &mdash 05/10/05 - 07:48:48 AM
Perfectly crafted lyric lines, in my era. The antiquated
styling makes it sound like a suicide story from
Hawthorne's day, gave it a timeless feel. More great
poetry. Wonderful guitar continuum. Very nice layering of
electric guitar, so crystalline and pure. The over-all level
of this track seems very low, I had to turn it up several
notches. Drums are a tad too soft in the mix, too far
removed from the lead vocals, in my ears. Not sure why
you kept in the pre-recording noises on this one. Such a
great song, tho, man. Such a great song. Sad, dreamy,
exposing the way it feels when someone dies, as if they
disappeared and never were.

Great style, sound vocal.
Really enjoyed listening to this, it sounds real professional to
me. Nice whispery type voice here.

Haunting and gut wrenching. &mdash 05/10/05 - 01:33:37 PM
This is a very sad topic you've chosen.

Your music complements the topic very well. excellent lyrics and songwriting.

Thanks!

wonderful &mdash 05/10/05 - 01:45:08 PM
I love this. Such wonderful lyrics and music writing. As
always your singing is superb. Really everything sounds
brilliant. While the overall production quality has hints of the
home-recording in it, it does sound very good. Surely with
writing and oerforming skills like this you must be a pro
musician who is just doing his own thing away from the band
and the studio. By the way, this song seems just the perfect
length to me. Downloaded and very high marks.

PUT YOUR NAME ON IT! &mdash 05/10/05 - 01:51:45 PM
Jonx, man, you need to put your name on this stuff. When I
download your songs the tags say the artist is "Admin" and
the album is "Admin's Album" (system defaults). Unless you
want your music to get passed around with absolutely no
attribution to yourself then you need to put your name on
the stuff. Not everyone will be like me and change it
themselves after they download it.

nice &mdash 05/10/05 - 11:25:16 PM
sounds nice. i had to turn it up a bit to hear it, but it was
a great mix, i thought. i kept waiting for you to start yelling
out one of the verses, and i'm glad you didn't. it would've
been too predictable. this sounded great the way it is.

:-) there are a few production issues... but all in all a great tune and voice

nice, very nice &mdash 05/11/05 - 09:56:51 AM
Really liked the restraint, the folky tone, the nice mix of
drums, not enough to detrack. Guitars dreamy and
perfect. Wonderful, thanks...

...thick like smoke... &mdash 05/11/05 - 01:23:55 PM
You have such a wonderful tone to your voice... thick like
smoke and hearty as a warming stew in Winter.
You shall a career, if you don't already...

nice flow &mdash 05/11/05 - 02:23:35 PM
i loved that this song stayed restrained and just
flowed. i would have kicked it up a notch and added
a bridge near the end, but you kept it cool and i
think that worked better for this song. excellent.
also, i loved the words.

Great Tune &mdash 05/12/05 - 03:25:18 PM
Really liked this one. I'm now a fan!

Have to agree with PG in that this tune needs to come out
of the "home recording" realm. It does indeed have that
feel. It lacks crispness (and volume). Not to say that this
is produced badly, because it's not.

Once your production skills match your writing and
performance skills you will be a force to recon with.

chilling. &mdash 05/12/05 - 10:11:16 PM
haunting piece. great writing man! cool vox, wonderful
poetry. this song left me with a chill. nice job!
regarding the production comments, i think it would be
just fine except for some compression things going on.
sounds like certain elements and/or the overall mix has a
weird compression to it. that's my only qualm.

A Poet. &mdash 05/15/05 - 11:00:30 PM
Jonx, you could publish a book of poetry with your brief
but beautiful lyrics. Just speaking the words to your songs
would be music. That being said, your melodies and voice
also create a unique atmosphere. Your songs are suberbly
crafted in all aspects. Like I've said before, I'm a fan.

If I was the type to DL ... &mdash 02/06/06 - 12:14:14 PM
.. I'd have led with "DLed and faved". As it stands it will just have to be "faved". My first "fave" ever, actually. I've been holding out - I wanted to save my "faves" for the songs I wish would just go on forever, and this one qualifies. Repeated listens yield new discoveries (my latest being the simple groove bass line in the first verse). I know some here have said "turn up the levels", but they're not so frighteningly low that I can't jack it up locally, so it's not really a problem for me. Great, great stuff.

My Favourite &mdash 10/25/06 - 05:08:11 PM
Song of yours. Love it. The bridge ("to weigh her down... to weigh her down") is stunning. Really love it.

Cool Song Dude &mdash 01/11/07 - 10:20:56 AM
Nice vocals and lyrics. They remind me of some of the NIN's newer stuff (the vocals, not the lyrics). Besides the volume being low I think the production on this is great. I am now a fan. Keep it up dude!
