Description:
This is another in my series of poems taken from Tobin Mueller's poetry book, Falling Past Love. I condensed the original, with Tobin's help and blessings, to make it work better as a spoken piece. I dedicate this one to my wife, Jackie.

The song art is by Jan Ternald, modified for this setting.

Lyrics:
I have tried
to balance you against the weights of the world,
to count you like change amid the clutter of my pockets,
to fit you within the rows and columns of the daily crossword,
to read you like a box score at the bottom of the screen.
To find you in prayers, behind altars, between bookmarked pages.
But I do not love you within the world. I love you before it.
There is you. And there is the world.

My love makes God a verb.
You god me. I god you. We god Us.
It is that simple. Your love remakes me a greater I am.
Ours was my Beginning, is Now and ever shall Be,
and all else tumbles out after, Amen.

My love drills happy holes through my body,
places for you to slide, caught and wanting.
And if there are holes left behind, I guard them like holy places.
And float lighter than tracing paper past the galleries of masters.
This is ease. This is breath. This is what dreams come to.

Love as simple as soap.

I wash off all unwanted complications,
when your mouth opens
into mine.

Deep voiced romance &mdash 05/10/05 - 05:24:08 PM
This turned out great. Your voice is fantastic, your edits
perfect, and this spin you put on a few lines, especially
the way you break up "My love makes God... a verb" is
wonderful. Thrillingly romantic. Great job. Can't wait to
work on the next one with you!

Better than Hallmark &mdash 05/11/05 - 05:37:48 AM
Romantic is right. Very. I love the words. I listened a
couple times and Del's reading is very good, specially
starting with the second stanza. The music is stirring and
good, like a Hallmark card background if I think about it,
yet is very moving if I let it be and think about the words.

Thank you. My view is there no such things as schmultz when it comes to
true love.

Enjoyed hearing this &mdash 05/12/05 - 09:26:19 PM
Some tough lines to deliver here, I think. (You god me. I
god you, etc) But you deliver, Del. I enjoyed this very
much.

Del you have a great voice for this. nice interpretation.
Love the poem by Tobin. Great stuff.
This whole piece has a very surreal vibe. Love it! The
accompanying visual art is perfect as well.

So glad I stumbled upon this &mdash 09/20/05 - 09:05:21 PM
I enjoyed this in so many way. The words are wonderful and
fun and very, very sweet. Way to go Tobin. And Del, your
voice carries so much power behind it. The words just jump
through my ears and into my brain. The music adds a sense
of romance and majesty. This is a good way to cap off my
evening. Thank you.
