Anecdotal moments:

Richard Schletty writes:
"Captured from the Chat Room 5-13-2005:

mandolinquent: go rs go rs
Rebsie: I'm impressed, Mando
rschletty: busking online
mandolinquent: remember them... the only bad Ian Dury album
rschletty: I will sing a song now and post it in 20 minutes
mandolinquent: had a brilliant drummer. really really good. he was in Ian Dury's music studentss
stevel: We call it football here....soccer means nothing
Rebsie: Sounds fun.
stevel: Rub a dub
rschletty: or is it football?
mandolinquent: only when played with far too many drugs, rebsie
rschletty: Europe calls it futbol
Rebsie: Is very serious dub different from normal dub?
stevel: no votive offering...we should adopt that as an option.
rschletty: Yes, St. Paul, MN
mandolinquent: best women's soccer in the world now
mandolinquent: Loads of soccer fields in the us these days, steve
mandolinquent: bless the dads, rs
stevel: Soccer field? In the US?
rschletty: but he extended no votive offering
Rebsie: If it came down on your head you'd bloody know about it
rschletty: One of the dads said "nice concert"!
rschletty: I busked at the soccer field last week. Seriously, practiced my tunes for over an hour under the shelter with a light rain coming down.
stevel: You wouldn't fit it in the overhead locker thats for sure
mandolinquent: I used to play in a very serious dub band... we recorded with the Mad Professor once.
Rebsie: I'm not sure I'd get the harp down the aisle ... it's very bulky
mandolinquent: Do you remember when Virgin started flyiing to america. they offered free flights to buskers... hahaha
stevel: Mando - were you a reggae musician in those days?
stevel: They'd be scrambling for the parachutes if I did it
rschletty: she is praying for a miracle...a lucky break...figures I may find myself in the skyway system
Rebsie: Oh Mando! I'm shocked.
Rebsie: Busking on aeroplanes is a good idea ... your audience can't escape
mandolinquent: ... and I think I also used to do "I shot the sherrif". :blush
stevel: Hustling on the street
rschletty: any day now...grab guitar and go downtown
SlimGirlFat: I cant seem to find a socket to plug my mac in on the underground to busk
mandolinquent: Your wife is encouraging you to get out of the house on to the streets rs?
stevel: Busking on areoplanes?
Rebsie: LOL Mando
rschletty: I want to be one of those. Even my wife is encouraging me to do that. A Skyway Musician is what they call it in these parts
mandolinquent: Shopkeepers used to come out and complain

And here is the song I sang extemporaneously from this transcript:
Busking Online"

"Not sure it would be considered anecdotal, but one of the best moments here on MJ was the day we all got together to celebrate Slimmie's 40th birthday. Alimar staged a production which to his credit, still must remain one of the greatest collaborations ever produced. I'm sure I'll be corrected (this is a tough crowd) but if memory serves, some 45 musicians created over 70 tracks which Alimar meticulously stitched together into one of the greatest tribute songs ever created. A quick search reveals, it seems, that it is no longer posted, but on the night of Slimmie's birthday, most if not all of the contributing musicians and a handful of other MJr's got together at midnight, cracked numerous bottles of whatever was at hand, and participated in one of the most outrageous chats ever in a worldwide online birthday party like no other, listening to the song over and over again as Slimmie literally fell off her London perch in disbelief.
Hat's off to Alimar and all those who contributed to this momentous achievement. This is exactly the kind of inspiring event that could have only happened right here."

From Thor (Thoddi) Oliversen:
"These collabs started out in 2005 with At Christmas time as the first song to start it off. I picked up a song I wrote many years ago and altered the text some to suit the holidays more. Had an idea that it might be cool to see if someone would like to join me in making it complete... someone did join... and it has become an annual project since then

It is a real treat for me to have these collabs around the holidays. Not knowing who will join it's quite a thrill to watch the emails pop in each year. "

From Rebsie:
"I dunno about anecdotes, but the UK MJ conventions are famous for the discovery of new and original uses for a kazoo.

MJ UK 2005 piccies

But at the 2008 convention Dick trumped us all by turning up with an electric one."

"Ooh, Slimmie's 40th, that was indeed an event of epic proportions. I also remember that "gotta get to MJ" impetus every time Virtual Garage was on the air. We always had so much fun in the chat. There was something magical about hanging out online and then hearing your song played on the radio, just like the music stars. Sonoma, California was the epicenter of Blaine Transue's musical earthquake that allowed people sitting at home to make music and hear it over the airwaves. Man, those were fun times.

Thanks, Blaine.

From Stevel:
"Wow can it really be nearly 4 years since I joined MJ....time flies! My first collab was when Mandolinquent asked me to add to a track he was working on with a female singer called Rebsie. It was great fun....it ended up as a track called 'Rebsie's SOS...song of the sinking woman' -http://www.macjams.com/song/10406

Shortly after I managed to get Mystified to sing on one of my songs called Hey Unbeliever and this led us to a series of further collaborations and formation of our own little band called Day For Night in 2006.

I have been fortunate to work with some cool people on this site: Mysti, Rebsie, Jiguma, Bronco, Karmatoburn, Particledots and many others. The UK MJ conventions in 2005 and 2008 were really great fun too...many thanks to Caroline (and hubby Pete) for allowing us to descend on 'The House of Shiny Lights'

From John (Texasfeel):
"My first Collaboration on line and for that matter, on macjams, was with Emily Rohm. Please read below the comment to my post. Thanks Neil for all the work.

I wrote the song "Tomorrow" on a beach vacation. I had tried this song with the last band I use to play with and was never satisfied with the outcome. One day I attended my nephews wedding and there was this lady who sang "Wind Beneath My Wings", it just blew me away and I knew then I needed to find someone with a strong and beuatiful female voice to sing this piece.

Many years later after breaking up with the band and totally ignoring my guitar for several years, my wife bought me an iMac. I soon discovered GarageBands simplicity and began to record my music ideas. I later found iComposition.com when searching for some additional loops and ended up joining. While there a radio announcer by the name of Blaine Transue from KSVY introduced himself and through him I found out about macjams. After posting a couple of songs on this site Emily Rohm showed some interest and offered some encouragement. After checking out some of her compositions I knew then I had found someone to sing "Tomorrow".

Emily excepted the task and here are the results. I've recently tweaked the mix with Logic but the majority of this composition was done on GarageBand. I still get goose bumps every time I hear Emily sing.

Thanks Emily.

" EE and I have been friends and making music together since we both joined macjams in 2005. Brandon moved to Seattle about nine months ago and I finally managed to get over to his place to see all the cool stuff in his studio. It was about time! We've done something like ten songs together, although only one is still live here at macjams, and he's one of my absolute favorite collaborators.

Hopefully, it's just the first of many visits and we'll be making some cool music come out of there together soon.

He may be laughing at the strangulation, but little does he know I am plotting to run away with his Little Phatty.
