ADAT anyone?
Tuesday, July 31 2018 @ 12:46 PM CDT

Hey everybody,

I was able to get my hands on an old ADAT tape that my band and I recorded in 98. I’d like to transfer the files directly to my DAW however I Don’t have an ADAT player. Any advice on one that might work with my iMac? It may only be a stereo signal although I’m hoping that it has all of the individual tracks that we recorded. I am shopping for a player currently any and all advice with regard to this will be deeply appreciated. Thanks again guys and girls.

I don't know that much about ADAT, you might check to see if there is a used ADAT player for sale on Ebay or Craigslist. I saw some there, one type was an ADAT 8 track. If you already have an interface for your mac I'm assuming you could transfer it into your DAW.

Another option is to seek out a recording studio that might have that technology and see if they can transfer the tracks to a drive or maybe even to a sd card.

Here's something I found on Amazon

https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Tape-Transfer-Service-Files/dp/B071X8G6ND

Maybe once you figure it out you can share with us. Wink

I’d definitely start by calling local studios – not the big boys, but the folks who do mastering for local musicians.   Although ADAT was eclipsed by the ultra-high-capacity SD memory card, many [small] studios still have that equipment on hand, and presumably you only have need of it once.

Not sure if this is what you are looking for but saw a 1990 Alesis Adat on Reverb.com listed for $100

I have finally figured this out but now I have forgotten what to use it for.
