Description
"Today every inhabitant of this planet must contemplate the day when this planet may no longer be habitable. Every man, woman and child lives under a nuclear sword of Damocles, hanging by the slenderest of threads, capable of being cut at any moment by accident, or miscalculation, or madness."

Really nice samples

Would have like to hear it get heavier, but that's not your
style. Ever seen the Documentry "trinity" on the atomic
and Nuclear bomb? it's insane.

So is this track

You sucked me into this one vortex!

Heavier would definitely work too, if I went that direction. Yes, "Trinity and

Drop the bomb!
Solid stuff you've got here!

I only have one beef with the song, and that's with the
extremely heavy use of samples. There's just...a whole lot of
them. I would have liked for the music itself to tell more of
the story, but hey, that's mostly just my personal taste.

I think the underlying material is truly great. Two thumbs
up!

Hey thanks ziti! Oh I totally get ya...scary stuff, especially considering who controls the nukes. I was an anti-nuclear activist during the Reagan years because this stuff freaks me out (the only real nightmares I have look roughly like the song art).

When I detach myself (can't live in fear every moment, after all), the whole issue seems ironic and absurd: humans threatening suicidal annihilation. I feel that absurdity from these sound bites: people dispassionately talking about these bombs that are 1000 times more powerful than the ones dropped on Japan, as if it was all just another curious experiment.

I hope there's never another nuclear attack anywhere; what a tragic, pointless waste that would be.

Thanks for listening and a good comment to get me rambling!

Great use of samples... and varying enough with music that it
kept my interest. It's that sort of "makes you uncomfortable"
edgy quality; suspense and build that keeps it from
becoming boring. Great production sense too.

in a Dr Strangelove sort of way. Very creative use of samples

Spooky,
Yes, Dr. Strangelove. This works for me, therapeutically, in a similar way--after all, you can't always be afraid of The Bomb, at a certain point you just have to mock the absurdity of it. Well, I do anyway. It helps put my grave concern in a slightly comical light, and in this case raise awareness (sorry to bring it crashing back to you!) I think we should all be workiing on abolishing these dam things. Thanks for listening and giving your impression and kind words, Aki!

What were they thinking.
Well done, I like the use of samples along with the music.
The mix is good, got a little clipping with the big booms
but other then that very nice. I don't know if you have
seen any of the de-classified films from the bomb test or
the Edgerton photographs, but when you look at them you
wonder, what in the hell were these guys thinking! Keep
up the interesting work.-JAC

Hey thanks, chakeres! I'm surprised you can detect that clipping; I knew it was there in a few places, but figured it was too subtle to notice! Now I know better! The de-classified bomb test films, yes. In fact, all of the sound bites here come from those (in particular, the Crossroads, Castle and Ivy tests). What were they thinking indeed! It's pretty beyond belief, not just that they built them, but that they even expected to use them! Ugh, scary as hell. Glad you found this interesting, thanks for your comment!

It needs something...
I like the way you have put this together, especially
the way the drums erupt out of the explosions. I
almost wish that there were a sombre ending to this
- a contrast. You know, after all the upbeat music
with matter-of-fact discussion about nukes comes a
really huge boom and a slow, sombre ending fade
out... this is where the harsh realization that
something bad has happened sets in...
Check out my latest song called stagnation
perceptualvortex said 5105 days ago (August 25th, 2005)
It needs something...
Yes, you make a good point here. This actually turned out to be quite a
challenge, and my attempts at tempering the upbeat/carefree danciness
with some grim reality didn't work out as I'd hoped.

In fact, I'd hoped to include something about the bad fallout from these tests
(the Marshall Islanders got it bad), but the sound bites never were working
for me. Plus, the fallout stuff ended up coming across as almost petty next
to the fact that these things can level cities in under a second.

I may try again with a different approach to the sound bites; a little more
narrative than disjointed. And with an overall different tone, something to
express the gravity of the situation. I certainly have enough material to
work with!

Thanks for listening Eric. I appreciate your comment, helping verify what's
been nagging me about this song.

Thank you for the compliments, Eccentrik. In this age where nuclear
annihilation has been a hazard for half a century, people have just

underneath the ominous threat. Seemed appropriate to me anyway. I'll

Warren Smith said 5010 days ago (November 28th, 2005)
Dance of Death
You've come up with a distinctly modern take on an old artistic expression - the Dance of Death. Originating during the Black Death plague of the 14th Century, people confronted their fears of sudden annihilation by singing and dancing with death. Maybe the only way to make sense of one's darkest fears is through humor? And maybe one of the best ways to dissipate the stress is through music and dance? What works so nicely in this piece is it is humorous while being deadly serious. Or is it the other way around? I agree with one of the comments above, that the ending could be more spooky.

Dance of Death
That's very insightful, Warren; I hadn't thought of this in the context of an artistic tradition before, but I see what you're saying and it makes sense. And I do think that dancing and music could work very well in warding off fears... in fact it may be part of the magical aspects of dance and music that have made them such an important part of all peoples and cultures. I may indeed revisit this someday and make a more fitting ending. Thanks for your thoughts and suggestion, much appreciated!
