Description
I haven't had time of late to construct anything new, so I went into the vaults and pulled out something different.

This song is an intentional collaboration between Travis Carter and myself; an experiment as is everything I do. I layed down the bass and percussion using loops. Travis then came in and listen to the track a few times before laying down his guitar live while listening to the track on headphones.

Since I have absolutely no equipment except for my imac G4, we placed his amp in front of the condenser ( or pinhole) mic on the screen and recorded it strait into GB.

This gives the track as a whole a sound that is somewhat muddy, but in the end we decided that we liked this sound. That in fact the track sounds like it could have been a recording of a band live in some bar with poor acoustics. Since the guitar is live, and this includes the multiple guitar tracks, the song almost is a live recording.

Musically it is a bizarre melange of form and freedom, of jazz and blues, of drunk and sober.

Frank..is that you?
That is some crazy guitar playing. It sounds excellent the way you've
recorded it. Who would have thought that the condenser mic could do
such a good job with guitar tone? There is a very Frank Zappa thing
going on here for sure. One critique I would give is to suggest the you
hone the craft of songwriting more. Your music needs dynamic and
movement to give your music more long-term listenablilty. Right now,
this feels less like a song, and more like a platform for a very cool
guitar solo. Still very good for what it is.

Frank..is that you?
Thank's for the comment and I'm glad you enjoyed it.
It wasn't meant to be a "song" in any conventional context. The song does
function more like a jam than anything else. If anything it comes from listening
to alot of free jazz, and that more than anything else is probably the defining
influence. What I do like is that it has a driving intensity to it that propells the
listener. Travis does play some crazy guitar; he'll be pleased you dug it.

Inspiring
Very inspiring music! Sounds like a band having real fun playing (though I
know it isn't really a band)! I like the energy of it a lot! I'm in better mood
now than I was before listening! Thank you!

Sounds great...
to me! I like the "live" sound. Sounds like there was a party going on
and everyone started to jam. Nice!

Sounds great...
I agree. It has a very organic quality, which is interesting since the bass and
percussion is rather ridged in form. Glad you gave it a listen.

Nice work
Just mirroring some comments:
For starters that sound is amazing. Its bizzare... it does sound a little
like a live recording (not quite enough reverb though) not like a dodgy
garageband song... I think thats because a dodgy garageband song
would probably sound.... ahhh... clean. I think thats it.... this sounds
like a cool and funky record... theres even that noise floor at the
beginning and end of the song (not quite the scratch and pop
though)... I've gotta try this someday.

Onto the the constructive critism though... I can hear that you've got a
sort of A B A form going here but its not very strong... it could be
improved with some deeper thought beforehand in regard to the
structure of the song.... though at the same time, free jazz isn't my cup
of tea normally so you can take that how you want.

Well done

Nice work
True, the form is loose. What form it does have is given by a certain permutaion
of the bass loops used. The intent behind the song is very simple, as I
mentioned above, so anyone listening to the song shouldn't have great
expectations pertaining to the song. The best approach is to see it as a jam.
But equally, and the reason I posted the song, is because I find it to be an
interesting experiment in its use of loops mixed with live guitar and that it was
recorded using only the condenser mic. Also, I think it rocks. It has a nice
propulsive quality and I find that I listen to it with regularity. Anyway, thanks for
the comment, its greatly appreciated

My thumbsa are up.
Very fun jam you have here.
Sounds like it was recorded out of your pocket at CBGB's, but that is the
charm of it.

It is part of its charm. Sometimes simplicity in both music and recording works
best. Thanks for giving it a listen.

Ah, Yes
Some very fine playing here. It does recall some of the more 'out there'
Zappa solos with its agression and some of the phrasing. The recording
quality and the backing music makes me imagine I've stumbled across a
boot of what the Magic Band may have been up to when the Captain
stepped out of the room.

Ah, Yes
The Captain is not an inaccurate analogy. Thanks for listening.

messy = good
I love the layered "messiness" of this... it is really active and alive.
Overall, the sound has a nice cohiseveness to it (I think I
murdered the spelling on that one). The rhythms sound ethnic
(latin?) to me as well...

messy = good
I also like its murky and messy quality. It still sounds to me like a bootleg of a
band thats going off and having fun. Thanks for listening.

You got it right. Sometimes what is best is a straight-ahead freak-out jam.
