Lyrics
(chorus)
Walking down
Walking down
Walking down the road

Walking down
Walking down
Walking down the road

You gave a light to me
A candle in my hand
Its flame is shedding darkness now
Shadows on the ground

(Repeat chorus)

Shadows are chasing me
A candle in my hand
When will I ever see
See the flame again?

Chasing shadows
Chasing shadows
Chasing shadows chasing me

Chasing shadows
Chasing shadows
Chasing shadows chasing me

(repeat and combine with 2nd verse)

Like the Jam 4
Like that addition of the Jam pack 4 alot!
Cool words to go with.
All that added instrumentation really adds quite abit to it.
Like that fingerpicking with it as well somewhere past 3:00
Like the cymbals very cool.
The ending is very cool indeed!
Good going Tom!

Like the Jam 4
Thanks, Bill. This was the first song I posted on MacJams in early January, but
it was posted in a format other than mp3 so I had to re-post it, and decided
to embellish it a bit, Glad you liked it. Thanks for the encouraging words.

Kudos, Tom Attwood...
Quickly d/l-ed, and fav'ed. You've got depth, talent, and a unique
approach to song making. I am never bored and am always surprised
at how your songs "sound." I shouldn't be, though, because you
keep putting these tunes out. Kudos, Tom Attwood...

Kudos, Tom Attwood...
No problem, Jack. Somewhere back there among the ancestors 'Atwood' used
to have two t's. (My daughter Ellen wants to switch her last name to the
original old English spelling "Attewood," so she will enjoy your 'mistake.')

Oh now, you tell me. I'd leave a comment, but I have to go to the optometrist
first. :-)

Look at you with your fancy animated cover art. Your modernity shocks me,

'Modernity'- such a funny word. Sounds like I'm about to become a father.
Maybe I should go to the modernity ward and see what's waiting for me? The
future? (By the way, why are you up so early?)

I'm chasing shadows, of course.

When are you going to pick up that kid, by the way? The nurses are getting

ooo, I'd like to have nurses that attach. Does this involve Velcro?

Love the new version
The original version of this was the first song of yours that I ever heard
way back and I really liked it then. This new version is simply amazing.
Absolutely brilliant work combining the orchestration into the original
concept. It's huge and epic... truly stunning.

Love the new version
Thanks, Peter. You were one of the first ones here to comment on my first
song at MacJams, the original version of this tune. I have appreciated your
support from the beginning, and I also appreciate the music you post here,
which is truly stunning. Thanks again.

A great song is even better....
...with these additions. Wow.
The building 'shadows' of the added instrumentation creates both
suspense and adds weight to the lyrics, and the driving pace of the
percussion at the end is excellent. Dimension, dynamics...and really,
dramatic depth in this expanded version.

I know I keep saying it, but thank you so much for sharing your talents
here, Tom.

I was prepared to not like this...
...because how could a new version of "Chasing Shadows" ever
stand up to the original? Usually redone, or expanded, versions
just don't hold up and this tune has always been my favorite song
of yours. You hooked me from the very beginning, Tom...

Well, I am so glad I gave it a chance, because you really give this
the treatment it deserves. The additions are so well done and
beautiful, I just can't believe my ears. This is, like, your "Stairway
to Heaven"! Great job... you have left me speechless again.

I was wondering when you were gonna revisit this crappy song!

Man! This is just the most amazing tune. It now sounds much more full but still manages to keep that creepy off-kilter vocals.

I like the dancing-bones xylophone!

This song should be making you money, dude!

Great Song
I remember this is the first song of yours that made me realize what an
unusual musical talent you were. Not afraid to take a chance. A musical
explorer on the road to nowhere but having a damn fine time on the
way! This version shows your growth into a virtuouso arranger in GB. I
love that you have mastered this but still love the first version also. In
anycase both arrangements showcase a great song from a great
songwriter.

like this one atwood
this has a great feel...and the recording itself is very original
sounding. Cool guitaring..six string drum! and when the change up to
the instrumental stars with the kalimba sound, into the cool
saxes...man it's a knock out....then again into the finger picking..great
stuff

very impressive....love the gong, too. Is that in jp4 as well?

into the iPod she goes..............thanks!

Jesus...
Will you ever quit... Just how many bags do have to come out of... You
are a consummate composer, singer, song writer, artist, guitarist,
pianist performer, and it seems, you are a consummate person; all that
and a bag of chips... What's scary is, that I'm sure that I've left
something out.

So glad to hear you back. This is outrageously, ON, Tom.

We have an apex here...

Very tastefully enhanced
I always love to do the old compare and contrast thing when someone
rerecords, reengineers or otherwise enhances a tune. This is an
awesomely solid tune to begin with. Sounds like it should have come out
of some 60s movie about someone trying to find something meaningful
out of life. The enhancements are well done and add breadth and depth
to the sound without detracting from it. Very nicely done, Tom.

Did you only start in January?
I always assumed you'd been around for EVER... (Er. That's supposed to
be
a compliment. )

Fascinating to hear what you started with here, because I missed this
first time. You've always such a fresh approach to songwriting. There's
so much to like here; the intertwined rhythms, the fresh, spiky guitar
part, that sax/marimba section... and your lovely voice too.

Goes back and looks for the original one to listen to...

Wow.
Really liked the kinda funky sound in the beginning.
The repeated backing vocals also sounded very good.
I've always liked marimba... waiting to be able to find a place to use them
myself. The strings were a nice touch and the sax solo was pretty darn
cool.
Excellent work!

Saxophonic excellence!
Hey Tom,

Great stuff, I really enjoyed the saxophone coming in later, ery cool, it's
fair to say you're one of the great producers in Jammerville, your sound is
so full and exciting on this, a stray from most of your stuff I've heard,
stuff like "Roundup..." and you do this with such style, i am impressed
and pleased to have experienced it, who knew so much could be done
with the sparse lyrics "walking down the road"

Good Job!

Great work
It's a rich and moving arrangement for a strong piece. Personally I
would have waited in introducing the strings till the repetition of the
chorus. You have been too impatient in my opinion :)
But then they add really much to the piece: continuity, drama. Each
layer adds something interesting, overall impression is of complexity,
richness, a very involving landscape.
The saxes sound amazing, as in the first version, maybe even better, I
love them.
There are two things disturbing me in the listening: the marimba short
rythm (or kalimba?) timing somewhat seems to skip a beat, and the
final sounds too much straightforward and simple to me. And I don't
like the lyrics: choruses are really effective, also vocally speaking (great
the bass voice adding in for the "shadows"!)...but the other verses don't
add much in my humble opinion :)

Intense!
there is something really intence about this song! Sometimes during the songs it reminds me a little of Elinor Rigby, and suddenly it goes in a total other direction. It is so varied!Man, this grows druing the song, after 3:10 something big happens, that just lifts this track even higher! Great Work!!!

Unusual as usual.....
Came on tonight to get inspired as my sis is sleeping and I can't play my stuff....yeah, what they all said....I caught myself thinking of the evolution Elfman took while listening to this - could totally hear this theme and variations on a Burton flick. Enjoyed as well the whole light/shadows metaphor and the paradox: can't have shadows unless there is a light....hmm...my only Question is: did the pulse sinc in the middle? If no, was that on porpoise?
