Half Baked Blues

Get Flash to see this player.

Description
This is a jazzed up blues number, which I played around with for years.
A special thanks to the following collaborators for their contribution to get my tune to this point.

John Stebbe for his remarkable piano playing.

drlaine for his terrific drum demo on the first half of the number. I was able to section out part of his drum work to make a click track for John and I to work with.

I play the lead, rhythm and bass guitars, GB drum fills and solos on the back end of the tune.

I hope you like.

Nothing Half-Baked about this!
Very cool jam here. The key changes kept me on my toes!
Excellent performances, and a lot of fun.

If this is the 'half-baked' version, looking forward to the finished one :)

Nothing Half-Baked about this!
Thanks so much for the kind words, Mysti. I'm so glad you liked it. John's piano gives it that real traditional Jazz/Blues sound. The man can play, can't he? Thanks for check ing it out!

Like how that bass starts out
and then getting into that o so clean electric jazz guitar. Very smooth.
Really has a nice sound, good going.

Like this, has that hip jazz bebop sound.

Glad to hear that it got you in the groove. I've had this one in the wings for a while. Thought I would tightening things up a bit and get it posted.

Muchos gracias, Efren!

I tried hard to get a real jazz sound out of this old Fender Stratocaster guitar of mine. It took a lot of messing around with the settings, but I got it to where it sounds warmer than I think it's design to sound. – Garageband settings to the rescue!

I'm just trying to keep up with the warmth of John's piano playing.

Thanks for your terrific comments.

And the two of you are in synch throughout. Kudos guys....

Master track....
Thanks Dadai. I really appreciate that. I couldn't have done it without John on piano. He brings a lot to the table when he sits in. The man can flat out play.

I dug Chicago Crawl. Nice long blues jam with a swingin' bass line. Way to go.

Man, that's tasty
eats, tasty all around. You guys bring me back from the commercial break! Scorp, this is smooth and smoky. You and John play off each other nicely - I'd pay dolla to hear this. If this is peeking into the oven, then the finished dish is going to be out-of-this-world. Thanks for the preview!

Big D!

Thanks a bunch. I hoping to complete the rest of the tune with all real instruments. I don't want to give away the details and spoil the fun before it's done.

Thanks for giving it a listen. I appreciate your input.

Wonderful!
This is a brilliant performance.
The sound and the scale of the guitar are very good.
The piano is sung.
Drums is also good.
All are good.

Wonderful!
Thank you, Tadashi, especially on the drums.

I can't take all of the credit for those drums. Macjams artist, drlaine, gave a great performance to work with. I tried to mix the GB drums in the best way possible without compromising his play.

Drlaine and John Stebbe deserve much credit for making it sound good.

Thank you for your encouraging comments. I'm glad you liked it!

Gibson ES335?
Oh it's a Strat? I guess you found the right GB settings. That's a great
tone for this piece. Your playing fits nicely with John's. Can't wait to
hear the follow up.

Gibson ES335?
Ooh, baby, do I wish I owned an ES335.

I did own a Gibson ES325, once – and a gorgeous Martin D35 (3-piece back), and an Ibanez Johnny Simth copy (blonde hollow body). All sold for college money many years ago.

MJ's acoustic guitar players will probably want to ring my neck for selling that Martin. I still regret it to this day. :(

Thanks for checking out the tune and commenting!

Tooth pick came out dry
Tested the center of the cake, looks ready to me. I don't see how you could over bake this formula. I think it has great exchange of guitar to keyboard, filled in just right when the two come together. Nice soft pause late in the song, Love the wrap up at the end.

Wish my Strat sounded like that, afraid my fingers can't do that... great job -Harold

You have some serious chops! The interplay between the piano, drums
and Bass sounds live. I love your tone. Nice round chorused hollowbody
sound to my ears. Great Stuff !

for being half-baked...
Thanks, Ray.

I really appreciate you taking the time to listen.

That slight pitchiness is most likely due to me playing with ultralight strings on my strat. It doesn't take much pressure to change the pitch of a note or two, especially when playing with no rock distortion effects....A valuable lesson learned on my end. Next time, medium gauge strings or a new jazz guitar.

Thanks for the critical ear and positive comments. I'm glad you dug it.

It's like we're
Listening to a live gig... Is this live? with players... or did you do all this
in layers... The atmosphere you've created in this really fits the live jazz
vibe... my eyes are watering from smoke that isn't even there... stellar
performances and a cool vibe
