Description
This song was a big hit in the 1930s back in the days when Hawaiian music was king, and lap steel guitars outsold "Spanish" guitars!

I'm playing a 1940s Rickenbacher lap steel, Fender Telecaster for rhythm, and Yamaha electric bass.

Comments appreciated! Mahalo and thanks for listening.

Aloha ndfusion!!!

Yes, this is a cover. It was written in 1919 by Sonny Cuna. Words by Johnny Noble. It was a huge hit I'm told.

Here's the lyrics:

'Neath swaying palm trees
Warm friendly sea breeze
Where you hear the mellow steel guitars
Moaning sweetly under tropic stars

Fair land of flowers
And golden showers
Where the hula girlies sing and sway

On their ukuleles hear them play

Oh, oh, oh those loving Hula Blues
Tell me have you heard those loving Hula Blues
You can't imagine what you're feeling blue about
You simply glide and take a slide and
You want to shout
You wiggle, you giggle,
You wiggle to the Hula Blues

hawaiian period
Could you put up a picture of that old Rickenbacher? It would be great to see what it looks like.

I'm still waiting for my "Hawaiian Period" to arrive - it seems like lots of artists go through one.

This is nicely done - a sweet pleasure for the ears.

Great sound
I like the tone of the lead guitar... I know way too little about lap steel
guitars, but I love the sound. Very cool.

Thanks everyone!
Been a long time since I visited this site and pleasantly surprised to see these nice comments!

Here's a link to more music that I've recorded including a picture of my Dalmatian "Ruby" and my Rickenbacker Bakelite lap steel:

All recordings were done on an iMacG4 and Garageband. On some I used a POD, others I have mic'd with an SM57.
