Like As The Waves (v2-remix): Sonnet 60 by Dadai & RSchletty

Get Flash to see this player.

Here’s a remix of our initial offering of Shakespeare’s Sonnet 60. Jack did some balancing and remixing in GarageBand, taking into account some of the feedback various listeners offered... and Rich did final equalization and leveling in Peak 4. Compare to http://www.macjams.com/song/19291

This is just one of a series of sonnets by William Shakespeare that we have adapted and set to music. If you go to the Postludes Trio page you can also listen to Sonnets 8, 18, 116, and 138.

Sonnet 60, William Shakespeare
Music by Jack Miller 2006

Em A
Like as the waves make towards the pebbled shore,
Em A
So do our minutes hasten to their end;
Em A
Each changing place with that which goes before,
Em A
In sequent toil all forwards do contend.

Nativity, once in the main of light,
Crawls to maturity, wherewith being crown'd,
Crooked ellipses 'gainst his glory fight,
And Time that gave doth now his gift confound.

Em A
Time doth transfix the flourish set on youth
Em A
And delves the parallels in beauty's brow,
Em A
Feeds on the rarities of nature's truth,
Em A
And nothing stands but for his scythe to mow:

C G Em A
And yet to times in hope my verse shall stand,
C G A Em
Praising thy worth, despite his cruel hand.

Love that guitar playing in particular. The vocals are really good, but I often have trouble figuring out what Shakespeare's talking about in these sonnets. Something about the inevitability of aging, I think. Anyway, this made for a lovely listen, it sounded very professional.

If Shakespeare were to revisit our modern world stage, he would say, "That's
what I'm talkin' about."

oh man
the guitar sound on this is so groovy. it reminds me of david crosby in his better days. it made me want to grow my hair long again and smoke some really chewy weed. the organ is heavenly. a technically perfect mix to my ears.

A nice soft and frienly tune
Don't understand the lyrics but this sounds to me a nice soft and frienly
tune. Very pleasant to listen to!

Great move to post lyrics with chords! Fun jamming along while listening.

mix here. The guitar panned left distracted me a time or 2 during verses. Vocals were spot on, very pleasant to listen to. Especially liked the melody and harmonies in the G/A chord section. Thanks for sharing.
