As Only You Can

Description
This tune started out as a little melody I was humming in the car one day. From there I added some words and it turned into a tiny prayer. Then I got this idea to turn it into a gospel tune - complete with gospel choir. So I started to record and construct this gospel choir... only when I wasn't looking the tune changed from gospel to more rock/pop... and the "choir" (using that term loosely!) remained. Go figure... these things sometimes go their own way.

Lyrics
Lord, Please hold me, help me, heal me as only you can
Lord Please shield me, show me, shape me as only you can
In your name I will do what it is you ask of me.
With your help I will sing loud and clear in harmony, with the melody
of your word.

Bridge:
There are times I refuse to let you into my heart
There are times I turn my head away
But those times I let myself fall from your grace
Are the times I am lonely, lost and longing to be led from my road
astray..

Lord Please claim me, clothe me, cleanse me as only you can
Lord Please calm me, call me, catch me as only you can
In your name I will do what it is you ask of me.
With your help I will sing loud and clear in harmony, with the melody
of your word.

Once Again
I am impressed. You songs are just so solid. I won't
say much, except-the energy in the vocals and
instrumentation burst forth in this great
performance. The exhuberance of faith and trust in
God is well expressed in this explosive rock/pop/
gospel song. In this, like so many of your creations,
I visualize a stage with singers and actors sometimes
performing, singing, dancing as the song is sung.
Very visual music. Well, I guess I had more to say
than I thought. :-)

Great vocal layering
Man, your backing vocals are layered really well. You get
straight 8s from me on this one. Great production, great
work put into this, and inspiring energies. All around.

Yes On Broadway
A very interesting combination of genres. Great
instrumentation.

I think you could push the lead vocal a little more. I
get the sense that you're holding back a little. Other
than that, fabulous piece of work!

Choir
is great in this song. I love how that sounds. I agree that
the lead vocal needs more punch; it does sound a tad like
you're holding back. All-in-all though, I like it a lot!

Choir
Hey Paul_T and mcsweb - I have to agree with you... the lead vocal sounds like it needs some punching up - like its holding back. Especially towards the end. I don't know how much more I've actually got in me... but maybe I'll give it a try and re-record the leads. Thanks for the feedback!!!

hallelujah.....
hallelujah.......rock on like u should.....if u had one of
those 3d spatial placement plugins..u could separate the
lead vocal from the backing vocals to give it some room...

Good sound
I really like the whole sound of this sound. Everything is
well mixed together, but melody is solid, the choir is...
well done, but borderline funny (to me). I like!

Godspellish
This is yet another great song which I visualize being
performed on the stage. You have a real talent for that
kind of music writing! It is indeed very VISUAL.

This tune reminds me somewhat of "Godspell"'s flavor.

I'm inspired
This is so well put together. I'm away from home at the moment and after listening to this, I'm dying to get back to home to use GarageBand.

This song is refreshingly uplifting. I'm officially inspired.

i believe
i love the harmony parts. this is a perfect sunday morning song. there are a few parts that sound like a demo, rough around the edges, and some song-sections have pretty sudden transistions, but then your harmonies kick in and everything smoothes again. i picked this as a favorite so i can listen to it again later. and again later. and again... i love the hand-clapping coda!

Please post lyrics
If you get time, please post the lyrics. Great production. I
like the way you described its genesis. I've had similar
experiences with song-writing.
