Description
1st major attempt at a garageband project. Tune named after my brother-in-law Clif, a cool dude and friend pictured here. This is the tune which resulted from a snippet of an idea to demo garageband with.

Welcome to MacJams
Nice mix. I'm not a funk expert, but this sounds like a well thought out track. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks mucho folks
Thanks PeacePiano and Karmatoburn.

I had fun putting it together while learning how to use Garageband. Took some loops to lay a beat which ignited an idea for melody and counter melody and then chopped up a vocal loop into bits to add here and there. My radium 61 for some reason is not being recognized by GB and wish to get fixed soon. Hopefully after that, I can add a few more substantive tunes .

1st project ????
Quit now !!!!!!
If you do not quit now you will become addicted. You'll stay up until 3 or 4 AM, you will begin to abandon your friends, any family you have will become strangers, and your eyesight will suffer from long hours staring at the waveform displays.

Hope you have as much fun as I have with GB.

Thanks
Thanks for the warning, though I fear it's too late. Only thing holding me up at the moment from working on the next project is a disabled keyboard and a Saxophone that has a higher priority besides the 8-5 job.

well i liked it!
matt bianco sort of stuff.
i think you got exactly what you wanted out of it, which is great for your first try.
it surely is the matter of taste, but i would like to hear some deeper and fatter (and louder) bass there. but might be just my poor speakers in the office...
cheers

Thanks
Thanks Baki, I'll keep the bass comments in mind. I didn't use headphones to check the mix, just my computer speakers. Perhaps the synth bass lines weren't enough. My radium 61 has failed and it looks like I got to either repair or buy a new one. It was just sitting there and it died, not from any abuse. Maybe a spike of some sort? Oh, well. Thanks for the listen and encouragement.

Out of the box
Not shabby at all for a first project - you maintain the groove and fabric of the rhythm very well. Continuity, for the most part, is really good. There are a couple of spots where sounds cut off suddenly, giving away a loop or two - but this is a really funky and energetic piece. Since you're already addicted - I'm looking forward to more!

Hey there Damiengh (?) or Cliff, is it
Lots of good energy ya got bagged there - You've used up all of the funky loops. Good first time effort. Keep it up. I can tell that you're having fun and that you'll contribute alot here. Bing there brought up some good points. you're getting some good sounds -This flows well...

thanks mucho
Had fun with the loops slicing and dicing. Did a little cutting of the voice loop up and placed them here and there while lowering a few to get the male voice.

I added the horn, bari and nasty synth bass lines to lend some originality with my radium, though they're licky sounding like from the disco days.

It was fun and hope to do more soon. Just got good news yesterday that my dead radium 61 was still under the extended warranty from musiciansfriend, so I'll be back in business after I get the labels to send it in for repair. Got my sax and flute to play in the meantime.

Yo, I'm Damien, Clif is the brother-law pictured above.

Who doesn't like some funk?
Please send my thanks to Clif for inspiring this cool jam. I like the fact that you brought some sax into the mix to work with the rest of the well-chosen sounds and loops.

This is a great first GB tune, and since you have skills on acoustic instruments that you can mix with the electronic sounds, I am looking forward to what comes next. You obviously have a good feeling for how a song should flow, and you know how to make an arrangement that keeps the listener's attention.

Welcome to the site, Damien. I'm sure you'll be a valued member of the community.

For a first tune...
Well done! I really like the cut up vocals that pop up every once in a while (usually when I least expect it). This track is a great listen, lots of variety, but without being over-kill. I'm sure you're pretty well addicted to GB by now (I know I have been since day 1). Well done, and looking forward to hear what else you can come up with!

thank you
Thanks e86 for the good words. I enjoy what your doing too.

I'm out of commission for the moment, as my keyboard went on the blink. Fortunately, I bought the extra coverage on musicians friend, a contract, which will be expired Jan.24. Whew! Got the extra year coverage and glad I did.

Playing Sax and a little guitar in the meantime while listening to the good posts here.

Cliff's Funk
Sounds real fine. I l-o-v-e funky stuff. First work on garageband...pretty impressive.
I've played in a funk band. I'm just imagining your piece played by a live band with a killer rhythm section and full horns . It would rock the house. Nice piece, damiengh!

I am realy happy I listened. this has a great groove the kind you can just move your feet to. Love the horns it pulls it all togther. CAnt wait for the next one.

Shades of...
the soul and funk of the sixties & early seventies. Funky bass, horns ala James B. and the Fabulous Flames, and the ever present Hammond organ. "Let me take you... let me take you"... back to an earlier time when soul reigned supreme (at least it did in the Philadelphia area where I grew up).

This song is crying for a sax to rip a couple riffs. I'd offer, but I know you are a sax man also. I'll be looking for more or your songs. Welcome to MJ!

Thanks
Thanks AA, Just waiting for my voucher from my extended warranty that musiciansfriend messed up with delivering expeditiously. At some point I have to get a SM57 and interface to record my Flute and Sax into some pieces. But for now, I use the garageband voices via keyboard, use loops for rhythms, and chop up a few loops for accents here and there.

Got me Dancin'
Well, bouncin' in my seat. :)
I particularly like the the dirty synth tone (the one heard at the end) and your choice and arrangement of the percussion and vocals.
damiengh said 4480 days ago (March 19th, 2007)
thanks
Thanks much. Kind of at the mercy of what tones are available and I don't have Reason or other synth software to play with.

I'm still learning Garageband with the limited time I have and would very much like to learn about adding vst's.

I also hope to get some more equipment (firebox or inspire & mics ), to add real flute or Sax to the mix. Thanks for giving a listen.

Nice groove Dami
Like the overall feel of this. Great groove, nice mix and some really cool instrumentation. For a first attempt at GB, you did a great job. You got the touch man.

Here's one of mine I think you might like. No loops, but it's kind of a R&B or Blues Jazz tune. I really don't know how to classify it, so maybe you can tell me. It's called "E-7th Blues Part Deux". Have a listen and let me know what you think

Thanks for sharing and for picking up on "Lonely Hearts". Glad you like that one too.

Be well my friend and have a Merry Christmas and a great New Year.

Thanks for coming by for a listen. This was my first project here and though it was a long time ago, it reminds me of how enthusiatic I was to get lost in garageband and see what could happen.
