The Promised Land

 Genre: Rock

Get Flash to see this player.

I just got a new acoustic electric yamaha guitar and decided to try it out in GarageBand...

Next thing I know I have this song fully recorded. It took about four hours in all.

I had to do the singing quickly while the family was out of the house for about 40 minutes, so please be kind to my less than stellar vox tracks. Especially the badly done high notes.

Been feeling paralyzed, all aloned - - hypnotized?
confused about which path to follow?
left naked in the cold, so far away from home
so, do think it all will change tomorrow?

You might not ever see the promised land
it's reach is just beyond your hands

stumbling dark through the night, guided by dim candlelight
now is that wind getting you down?
there must be more to life, than just a sea of strife
on a ship that running aground

You just might never see that promised land
it's reach is just beyond your hands.

song. The drum track seems to be a bit in the back, but the guitar work is great.

Cool tune
Really good pop rock tune...your vox remind a bit of Elvis Costello on this one. Nice mix of guitar tones as usual
Not bad for 4 hours work!!!

Firstly, nice pic. Agree with the Elvis Costello comment. But, that's a good thing. Nicely structured song. Well-written and performed.
Outstanding words!

Love it
Let me be upfront to all who may read this .. I'm a big fan of Matts music (plus I'm also his personal stalker - every star should have one)so I could be accused of being biased but ..
Matt has a sound, an individual, recognisable sound to his music, lets call it the "Granz wall of marble sound" .. like rock, but classier, like the Spector wall of sound in production, but minus the guns. This makes him stand out from all the other artists (like me) who are searching for their sound. Matt has it in spade loads.
This song is a great example of his stuff, powerful, energetic, great lyric, variation all wrapped up in the Granz wall of marble sound.
There are imperfections in the song and the vocal, but I dont care, because I like the total package, which is greater than the sum of the parts.
Bravo Matt, Bravo. It's time you sent you demo's to some independent labels.

Great Pace
This is almost like an early, uptempo Moody Blues anthem rethunk for a post-grungepre postpunk mindset. Or was that re-deonstructionist metarealism merged with proto-datapop? Well, anyway I like it a lot. I've been trying to figure out what you've got on that vox... a chorus? Well, a few dozen more listens to a few dozen more songs of yours and I'm sure I'll nail it.

Good One.
