Description
Hello!

A song that does not need any explanation - hopefully. Please mind the Genesis-like guitar sounds on track 2...
Enjoy, please

Lyrics
Can't Let Go

We found each other in the morning haze
That first year brought to us such joy
With common friends we whiled away the days
It seemed like nothing could annoy

Well, I can't let go of that old feeling
when our hearts pushed through the ceiling
and soared on high with doves where the shore
met the blue sky of forevermore

We vowed one day to lift each other higher
no matter what each moment weighed
But then doubt's shadow made us sink into the mire
Harmonic waves began to fade

Well, I can't let go of that old feeling
when our hearts pushed through the ceiling
and soared on high with doves where the shore
met the blue sky of forevermore

Now I dream upon my love
Where is she tonight?
Now I drift upon the sea
Is her vessel in sight?

They say that time anneals the fragile soul
That whispered prayers will soon erase
But I am heedless to the final toll
I summon forth your precious face

Well, I can't let go of that old feeling
when ours hearts pushed through the ceiling
and soared on high with doves where the shore
met the blue sky of forevermore

Nice!
Great singing and wonderful recording quality. Acoustic guitar sounds great to me but maybe a little loud in the mix for some folks. But overall quality song and good job.

Tom...
Tom, maybe the guitar is a little loud. It's so hard to know. I will try a remix and send it to you for review. Thanks!

wow...
stunning, truly stunning melody guys and beautiful lyrics. simply adore the simplicity of the instrumentation, that so crystal clear guitar playing, sounding so uncomplicated, but SO beautifully, that it gives you goose bumps. richie you sing really mighty here with SO lovely harmonies... i don't know how to describe the feeling i have, not to sound silly. i would say all the song is light, pure, clear, airy, bright. everything here works for me on 100%. nothing, but not even a tiny bit disturbs me. i have a feeling of a complete serenity and neatness. guys, fantastic song. paja

Grateful
Paja: Thank you so much for your generous comments. Karl and Hendrik recorded, as you say, a very simple soundtrack (acoustic guitar plus a "Genesis-style" synth keyboard part). The temporary "working" title they gave their instrumental part was "Can't Let Go". As with most of the other song collaborations we have done, I took the title and created lyrics based on that. Then I sang it -- in the most gentle way I could. I had a very special experience recording this song. I cried a bit when I heard the final bounce.

I would like to share a comment with Karl and Hendrik which I just received from S. Kathleen H. via e-mail:

Richard,

"Can't Let Go"---beautiful!!!!!!! Your voice is marvelous, and when you sing parts to accompany yourself , I could listen again and again!!

Prayers for you, your work and your family.

Kate

Troubled
Troubled as in your voice and guitar in this song wouldn't let me loose. I had to play it 4X over before even thinking of commenting.

Time anneals
Very enjoyable piece. The falsetto section is wonderful, a brilliant moment. The synth seems a tad random, wandering in the background in, yes, a dreamlike way, but I thought it became more like white noise than a second voice by the end (and I would have ended it on the 3rd above tonic instead of the tonic, to keep it afloat). Some of the wording made me think you adopted a Sonnet as the piece progressed, too general and visual-metaphor-ladened by the end. However, one of your best performances and authentic expressions. That falsetto section makes the song for me. Very nice track.

Rich und Klar (bilingual pun attempt)
Very sweetly done here! The singing and guitar part/harmony creates a richness that is very satisfying, but the richness does not get muddy, the whole piece feels very clear and crisp... somewhat like old Simon and Garfunkel (I'm reminded a bit of "Bookends" in its sweet simplicity.) Richard, your lyrics are thoughtful, wistful and poetic... sometimes you stretch the metaphors with unusual choices of vocabulary (e.g. "Harmonic waves began to fade"), but they do not really detract on this song. The guitar playing and recording is beautiful. The up-an-octave singing seems a little strained, but Richard sailed through it quite well.

Great job guys!
