Description
Dug this out of my catalog.......a demo from around 93-94. Some dated sounds and it's a bit grainy. I'm pretty sure I did this on some linked Adats and must have mixed it on some dull speakers ha! One of those I wish I could go back and update a little but no way to do that now. I started to bring it into logic and try to improve it some, then thought, what the heck. So here's an old demo.

wouldn't have known
that this was an older demo. It sounds pretty damn crisp to me. You have a wonderful POP sensibility. Just a nice easy flow. If you go down the route of updating, maybe some of the fine guitarists here can swap out the midi lead for you.

A good call
Glad you posted this one... fantastic song of mistake, regret and apology. Fortunately for us you said "what the heck"... it stands strong as is. Heck, not much else for me to add... you've got great talent... I'm happy you're sharing it here!

As you know Adam
being a songwriter yourself......this subject has been written about a lot, and this was my take on it. Sort of like that really old song "You Don't Miss Your Water Till The Well Runs Dry". Seems especially true with us men sometimes, that we can't make ourselves say the right things until our good thing is gone. It makes me happy to see you improving each time with your songwriting and your last one "Believe" was great!

Thanks Adam

I'm with Adam
This is another treat for us here, for which thank you very much. Your vocals are absolutely world-class. And I subscribe to the theory that says a good pop song is a good song, period. True, the synth sounds bring us back in time, but the song itself holds up just fine, as does the themes Adam mentioned.

This all feels so effortless, but I'm guessing you've worked very hard at your craft for a long time to be able to turn it into art the way you do. And your music is art - there's no question of that.

I hope you keep posting here, Paul. There are a lot of grateful people who really enjoy what you've been bringing, and I'm just one of them.

Well now Patrick,
I have to honestly say, the treat and pleasure is mine. I'm really happy to find a site like this where I can post my music in any form....rough, old, or even unfinished. The best part though is the warm welcome I've received from well established members such as yourself. You are right.....I have worked very hard over the years like anyone who tries to do their best, although 15 years ago it did require less effort ha!
You know I'm glad you use the word "Art"...... thats the way I've always looked at it.
I know some call it a craft and some call it art. Maybe I take it literally, like basket weaving or painting. I think I would prefer to be known as a painter ha!

Thanks for everything Patrick

Hey Mark
Don't get me wrong......now I do like the song. I just wish I could change some sounds and remix it. After thinking back a bit, I think I sequenced this with a
little yamaha laptop with 8 midi outs built into the back of the computer.
Thanks for all of your kind comments, I do appreciate it. I think I was trying to help you with Logic in chat the other night......I hope I didn't confuse you more ha!

Thanks again Mark

Wouldn't forget...
Especially after this song! I have it at 5 stars in my iTunes and it just popped up again (4th time straight in 3 days) on a random shuffle!?

So how do you do that Droop? Write a song that when loaded in iTunes keeps bubbling to the top on shuffle!? That's amazing!

So I'm waiting... what wonderful "gem" will you pull out of your catalog next!? :-)

Droop - you are SO talented! I absolutely love your voice here, and love the instrumentation just as much. Wonderful, tight harmonies (a personal fave for me) - this song makes me happy on all levels where that feeling gets measured for me! Thanks goodness for "what the heck!" FYI, we've listened to it 4 times now here in my home, and enjoyed each listen as much or more than the last! Thanks Droop!

Thanks Karen

Sir Bass
Oddly enough when I wrote this I wasn't thinking country....I seldom think about genre, or who a song would be good for when I write. But then I did put a sampled dobro solo on this at the last moment because I knew I might pitch it country.

Thanks for listening

Pro quality songwriting. Forget the dated sounds and "grainy" (didn't sound bad to my ears) sound...you're a top notch songwriter with a great delivery.

lol...
...I know what you mean...

Garner's doing something or other,...I don't push her musical thing other than to keep practicing for her piano/voice lessons...and not too severe in that area either...but I'm sure she'll get something up here sooner or later.

You're funny...what you did with her tune was absolutely great...great collab...

Paul, I always love listening to your music. I absolutely adore your voice and when you sing, I can feel the emotion you put into it and I enjoy it even more. You are a very gifted, creative, and wonderful musician. This is a great song, no matter when you performed it. You know how some things just never grow old? That would be your music.....certainly not me!! :) Great job.

you are really too kind. You know I remember doing this demo fairly well but it sure doesn't seem like almost 15 years ago. I took more than 10 years off so things are certainly harder for me now. I am enjoying being here and hearing great singers and writers like you though.

love your voice
It sounds so great on this tune. Very well done. Are you doing all of the background vocals? This tune sounds really familiar, though. Was it covered with some radio play? Seems like I remember this tune out by Faith Hill or someone like that a few years back.

Anyway, I really like this version. Nice mix. I don't mind the dated instrumentation. Very clean and fun. I like the bounce, makes me tap my toes.

Hey KC
Thanks and yeah I did the backgrounds. Also, not many folks here seem to be much into country music, but yes It was a single by Lorrie Morgan. I just always liked the song and thought I'd put up the original demo. It never crossed my mind that a female might record this.....I personally think its better from a male perspective.
Which reminds me, it required a rewrite on the second verse to fit her better.
Oh and the record didn't bounce as well ha!

Thanks KC

Yours is better
Thanks for clearing it up - I thought I had heard it a few years ago. I am not much of a country fan ( I went through a phase awhile back when I was driving truck) but I thought it sounded familiar.

I think this version is a little snappier. A little less treated, maybe?

Thanks for the post and answering my questions. What's Next?

In Your Arms Again
This sounds really good for something from your back catalog. It deserves an update. Very catchy. But, the best part(besides the hooky melody and vocal harmonies) is the absolutely WONDERFUL pop-soul voice.

definitely a good vocal track. not sure why you'd update it it's fine the way it is. i can see an eagle's sound to it as well. it's a nice song.

I would've...
bought this 45rpm back in the sixties.... I would have bought the cassette tape back in the seventies... I would've bought the CD back in the nineties...

Your vocals slay me... so sweet. I would be dancing with my girl if this song was playing at a dance way back when... so,

thanks, Droop for this classic tune.
