Fit to Be Tied (a quintet collab)

I'm very pleased to welcome back 4 of my internet music buddies from another site for a tune of which I'm really proud. I've collaborated with each of these artists before (and they've collab'ed with each other in various combinations), so in a way, it was a comfortable gathering of friends working on this track. I mention this because each of their performances were so integral to the song being what it is, and our past history of making music together no doubt helped the project along. Each collab is its own experience, but this one will always stick out to me as one that had wild evolutionary leaps each time one of these artists contributed to the song. I think you'll agree each of them did just an amazing job on their tracks.

Check out the Lyrics section for jkane's words on the lyric concept. I love knowing the story behind the story, and this tells it.

(Artists' names as they appear on the other site.)
Lead vocals/lyrics: jkane
Backing vocals: Choirbox
Orchestration/piano: Eidolonia
Lead guitar: samboway
Music/mix/guitars/bass: me

Thanks for listening! And hold on.

(I totally don't know how to categorize this into a single genre. So for those reading, I feel it's symphonic metal with an acoustic interlude.)

(jkane's words: In 2007 I witnessed the near destruction of a beautiful person, that in my opinion, deserved only joy and happiness. I knew little of her family and her life but always felt she had grace and kindness. I later learnt
that she and her husband were closely tied to their faith and church. This family has had another serious set back that I cannot elaborate on but I was so incensed by their misfortune that I had to write about it.

I tried to imagine what was going on in the mind of her husband. Here was a man that did everything right. I saw him almost every day and he never had a scowl or the look of defeat on his face. It was then that I got the words for this song and quickly realized that I couldn't behave like that. I would have sunk into a dark rage and would have gladly invited the world to be damned with me.)

A fate like mine

just ain't right

I got an anger

burning inside

and what I can't abide

is seeing my true, my true love

cut down in her prime.

I can embrace

the maker's plan for me

and I can accept

that we are mortal beings

there is a path

that I know that I must take

so this is my life

so this is my given fate

but it's so hard

to pray and wait

to let my faith

lift me up.

Defended my country

Lived a good life

Raised a family

and stood by my wife

Never questioned statute or law

Always obeyed the ones that came down from above

Now my heart is broken

My eyes dull and red

As my true love lies dying on this bed

So I call to heaven

bring your angels down

Save a soul that's fading

and a life struck down

I see the pieces

they're falling away

I feel my faith

slipping away

I want to give into a darker world

I want to know

that there is no God above

No God above

Just this world and all it's hate

and all the pain and the fear

I'm fit to be tied

I like this song a lot. I'm a big fan of Orchestrated Metal songs and this is a perfect example of this style. Great work as always from you my friend!

Greatly appreciate the comments! Considering this project took about 6 months to complete, forced me to reformat my drive and revert back to an older OS and older version of Logic, requiring a rebuild of the song from scratch, and considering Sam had a similar computer meltdown, you'd question whether it was worth it. Oh yeah, without a doubt, it was absolutely worth it.

I've never been in a band. I've never gigged. Up until very recently, I've never played live before anyone besides immediate family. And yet, a few years ago, I bought a Mac and started writing and recording. And the bands I've never been in, and... [see more]
