Deep
and thoughtful sounding with an air of pensiveness and expectancy...... very restful, (LOL I just read your description above, which says "a sleepless night" and I suppose that just about sums up my comment, or visa versa) regards M

Excellent composition
Well played with great attention to space. I like the little whole-tone phrasings... the wandering in and out of tonality. Nice!

sometimes
A sleepless night is the best kind, only its the next day that gets ya. The expressiveness in your playing is like being on a road that twist and turns and sometimes looks ahead with hope and a off colored note. Loved it! downloaded thanks!

A quiet etude like feeling
that wanders between familiar and unfamiliar rhythms and intervals. Tons of space to roam around in here as a listener. The unhurried flow and delicate phrasing make this a space out of time - no where to go, nothing else to do but hear the note or chord that is here now. I am also partial to the phrases taking on a tempo of their own from start to finish, yet without a constant underlying tempo necessarily present, like each phrase is its own breath with spaces between. I used a similar technique on Deliberating the Call. Finally the dance between the very simple single notes of the left hand and the flow of tones from the right gave the overall minimalist frame to the piece that makes it, for me, so engaging.

Thanks man!

Doug

As you've so well demonstrated...
in several of you pieces Doug you have a gift for the delicate phrase and creating a "space" for the music to breath.
I'm happy you found some of that in The Desk Doug.
Thank you so much my friend,
Best,
Charlie

I'm late...
...getting to this, Charlie, but it is an intriguing (and daring) counterpoint that lives entirely on its own terms and forces the listener to interpret (on THEIR own terms). There is restless energy here, sort of a wandering and wondering what's "up" next. Very restrained writing that requires attention. You resisted any temptation to embellish, so the starkness of the message and the scene is left very much intact and authentic. Nice.
Peace.

Thanks Paul,
A work like this is atypical for me. I gravitate towards a larger orchestral palate. But I enjoyed creating and playing this and it has a special place in my heart.
It means a lot to me to have you - a real master of the a keyboard - take the time to listen and comment on it.
Cheers,
Charlie
