Description
The idea for this tune came after FlatRock2 dug back in my catalog and made a comment on Working Class Day. I listened to the song for the first time in a long time and decided I might go back and rework it. Instead, as I started work, I got the idea for another tune along the same lines. A sequel, if you will.
I've worked on this for several weeks, but never could quite get things right. Finally, I decided to just sit down and get the thing recorded the first time I had the time and the space to get it done. Today was the day.
This is definitely a commentary on our times. Even with the hope of help on the horizon, these are still dark economic times.
This is a first for me, I think. If I remember correctly, this is the first song I have done completely in Logic Express. No GarageBands were harmed in making this song. It's going to take some getting used to and I still have a lot of stuff to figure out how to do, but, yes, Lisa, you were right. Now that I'm getting used to it it's just as easy as recording in GB and switching over.

Lyrics
Working Man
©2009 Joseph Gurner
Late one evening, they shut the gate
We punched out one last time
Tears roll down thinkin’ ‘bout 20 years
Spent working on the line
Grim faces go to humble homes
Where familes wait for the bad news
So much pressure rains down every day
Seems there’s nothin’ left to lose
Keep on lookin’ but the jobs just ain’t there
Keep on hopin’ against all hope
I pray for the change they say is coin’ on
Right now I can’t see the light
All I wanna do is
provide for my family
Is that too much to understand
All I want is
a chance at the dream
Let me be a working man
In New Years another corporate man
Kicks back in his designed shoes
He smiles in to his ice and gin
He don’t care about the news
Another bank goes down the drain
Another bailout from the workin’ man
But the money keeps on rolling in
He’s gonna get all he can
He don’t worry about the jobs we’ve lost
They’re just number on a page
A few bucks saved on the bottom line
Another bonus in the bank
All I wanna do is
provide for my family
Is that too much to understand
All I want is
a chance at the dream
Let me be a working man
You try to fight it day after day
Life just pins you to the ground
All you want is dignity and pride
All I wanna do is
provide for my family
Is that too much to understand
All I want is
a chance at the dream
Let me be a working man
