Lyrics
Cerebral Core Test

every time i think i know you -- you have changed
every way i think i know that i am the same
every way you think you know me -- i have changed
every time you think you know that you are the same

so you think you know i know you know i know what you're thinkin'
but it's only a mirage, an illusion
and you dream a dream, i dream it too you know, that we're dreamin'
it's just your cerebral cortex in recursion

every atom in our bodies has a certain place
every atom in our bodies will be replaced
...
so you think you know i know you know i know what you're thinkin'
but it's only a mirage, an illusion

every body on our planet has a certain place
every body on our planet will be replaced
...
every time i think i know you -- you have changed
every way i think i know that i am the same
every way you think you know me -- i have changed
every time you think you know that you are the same
....
so you think you know i know you know i know what you're thinkin'
but it's only a mirage, an illusion
and you dream a dream, i dream it too you know, that we're dreamin'
it's just your cerebral cortex in recursion

Good driving song
I can see myself cruising and listening to this. I like the duet sound, the vocs are spot on in key, however, that being said, I feel like it needed a little more energy from both of you. Overall great tune.

well, there is no making up for lack of singing skill! :-)

it's surprising how well our lack of singing ability matches up so well in this duet. :-)

check out the old version sometime

Flashback
to the Human League. All the instruments are put together and chosen perfectly to compliment your voices. The only thing I would say is that maybe the first time the phrase "ever time" is song should be done in unison, that way it would sound more fluid, since your voices compliment each other so well.

Awesome!

Wow Bill
I love the lyrics, and the production on this. It's so clean and easy to listen to. Beautiful bit of writing Bill. Na the music fits it so perfectly.

Glad you joined the festival my friend or I might have never heard this one.

Be well and be cool Bill,

same old lyrics! same old tracks, mostly, except:

i removed some reverb

split the horns into separate tracks and panned them

added some drum fills

spiced up the bass with some distortion

added real ocean effects for the extended fade out

tweaked the EQ

that's all i learned since i got here :-)

thanks

And I'm impressed, this is really good for a first post. I really like the groove as well. The unpredictable progression really adds to the composition.

when i signed up here at MacJams i had been GB hacking for 9 months or so... and i picked out my best to roll out first, and again here for the Reunion Fest.

i still like this song myself - it speaks to me on several levels, in ways i didn't understand when i wrote it. how can that be?

thanks

Subtle yet effective changes here Bill
There's more separation and definition to everything - and it seems you added some more dynamics to the pauses. A great song done one better. Great post.

Great clarity
on this.... the recording is perfect to my ears. Love the thoughts behind this and the way you've written/ sung the lyrics... very philosophical and true. The song and presentation is great and the backing perfect... love the congas/ percussion driving us along and the sound of the sea (of life?) at the end.... excellent, cheers M

I had to laugh a bit
What at first appears "romantic" is in fact a science lesson... as hard as I've tried, i've never been able to work "cerebral cortex in recursion" into a song...

I think you set me up for the expectation of epic romantic... because it opens like Steve Winwoods' "When you see a Chance" really catches my attention... everything you do around here oozes intellegence... but this is mingled with heart..

it's been long enough ago (and many songs ago) that i can't quite recall all the reasons for the lyrics

there's certainly science, but there is a bit of a love song in there too - i describe that a little more in the original song's description

I've had to read a bit of neuropsych lately...
...so I'm just checking that my mind isn't just dropping neuropsychology into everything I listen to...

Nope. It's Bill.

Cute lyrics and a neat little tune. I could imagine some whimsical pop group going to town on this one... It'd be a big hit for slide shows at professional conferences...

It's quite astonishing all the different kinds and blends of fun and seriousness and intelligence that you bring to the site, Bill...

it's a weird truth that almost everything around us is constantly changing in many different ways. and that we are subject to this constant flux, and we are actually part of the flux as well. there's a sort of Zen quality to the idea.

Such a fine cruise...
As deep as the lyric gets, I still find this song positively charming. I'm a big fan of the French horn, and I like your use of the section here. In fact, all the elements of this song work very well..

Recursion - a mirror looking at a mirror... Some say in our purest state we merely reflect back, as a mirror would, to an observer, and the observer reflects back to us, thereby giving us both a glimpse of the infinite... I think I just gave myself a bloody nose trying to think about this.

I really like the song, in any case. Well done, and a wonderful listen.

i'm glad you liked it. i guess it's a kind of psycho-geek topic for lyrics, but heck, i guess it worked out OK.

i'm a fan of French horn, and English horn, and oboe, and flute, oh, and bassoon... hmmm, well, anyway.

thanks!
