Kaleidoscope (with Prologue) 2009 Beta V1

Description
The Saga is concluded - possibly. I started re-recording Kaleidoscope back in early 2008 (The original was first posted to Macjams in 2005). Shit happened. Moved city thus changing recording set-up etc. and now finally (barring a few tweaks) I think I've finished the damn tune. The Prologue which I've added will make more sense when heard as part of an E.P. I'm planning. Anyways, hope you enjoy and I welcome any feedback.

Lyrics
Kaleidoscope
Words & Noise: Pie

Kaleidoscope of color breaking down the light
and casts it's hue upon the wall
caught in a slo-mo trance
emotion dances and raises a quizical brow

sittin' 'round dodging coffins waiting for their time to come
with luck, perhaps they'll leave together, hand in hand
cups of tea and custard creams, watch the pigeaons fly
park bench sofa, channel hopping, watch the world go by

can you tell me, is this love that i'm feeling?
can you tell me?
or a psychological need to imprint ourselves upon the most available compatible?

BREAKDOWN

can you tell me, is this love that i'm feeling?
can you tell me?
or a psychological need to imprint ourselves upon the most available compatible?

fast cars and margaritas, she opens up on sight of bling
he takes his prize and plays the game of lo-fi dreams and duplicity
ladies nights and business trips, laying claim to time for space
their secret lives, their rendezvous - their ignorance is bliss.

can you tell me, is this love that i'm feeling?
can you tell me?
is this love that i'm feeling? is this love that i'm seeing?
is this love, is this love, is this love?
am i seeing love? (is this what you call love?)
am i hearing love? (is this your dream call love?)
should i believe in this feeling you call love?

Not too late
For a real rocker... Nice piece for an introduction to macjams. I'm enjoying the driving drums and bass. A lot of natural changes and rests. Great guitar and vocals are really good as well. Complete and one of the best songs I've ever heard on macjams.

Clean
It is great to hear real instruments from a real artist! At times it gets a bit frustrating hearing the same loops over and over. Your vocals are fresh, a great deal of work went into this production. I definitely will be back . . . if it were available as a download it would go right to my iPod!

Dig it
A fab track! I'll mention that the intro had me thinking this was just an instrumental version, but it kept my interest throughout. I really like the song and your vocals are outstanding! The lead guitar sounds sweet. The ending snippet made me laugh, too.

Musical Journey
This has been a fascinating journey, my friend. Such dedication to the art form is rare, to be sure and the results are wonderful. Let it fly. :)

This is awesome
Great music, and great production. Love that strong drum sound. The kick drum sounds like it is 10 feet wide. Smoking guitar solo. Great work. Thanks, enjoyed listening.

Love it
The intro for some reason reminded me of Genesis.

Great drum programming as always here. Nice use of effects throughout. I like the LIVE feel it has.

Wonderful mix of one of my favorite songs of yours.

Look forward to the E.P. when its out.

Jeepers
That chick at the end is a HUSSY!

You came into the site at such a high level of skill in all areas, musicianship, singing, writing, production, but you have clearly grown in the last five years. This is outrageously confident and skilled. I know we'd all love to hear more from you, but I've come to accept that the process is so much a part of what you love about doing this in the first place and, quite frankly, I've benefited so much from your investigations, I'm grateful for you being a processwhore in many ways.

So what's next, then? Falling? Oh please, oh please.

Lots of good stuff
here Pie!

In phones it sounds like the sort of mix I've been trying (unsuccessfully) to get for a while: lots of detail, but pretty much focussed in the centre of the sound stage, yet with enough separation between L and R to make it obvious that it is stereo. I really like the drums - both how they sound and what they are playing - and you do vocals, bass and guitars like no-one else. Great construction of the vocals and I love the way you use stops and extra sounds in the mix.

Great rock/pop post, and terrific to see you posting again.

Excellent
Excellent stuff. The mix is superb. Love the drums, and the guitar is very effective - great sounds and lovely playing. Then when the vocal kicks in the whole track kicks off into another gear. Great vocal - excellent singing and really nice lyrics. A terrific song, brilliantly realized. Very cool. Nicely done. Peace.

wow!
when i joined MJs a few months ago, I came across your profile in my random browsing and instantly loved all of your songs. I am SO excited that you have posted again. This is fabulous. I love the intro, regardless of whether or not I know what it's there for. Incredible performances and production on everything. I love the piano in this. Great lyrics. Cool stuff!

I believe in this thing you call love
I'd like to just say F*CK YOU MOTHER LICKER! How can you be so damn good?!?!?! it's just not fair!
Instead I'm going to say: Another tasty offering from the master known as Pie. I love this particular slice. Full of interest, wonder, excitement, soundscape, animation, broadway musical, killer performance and pristine mixing. You always amaze me with your guitar - the sound, the playing, the riffs - If I could just touch your cloak I believe I would be healed.

Kaleidoscope
Wow.
Can't wait to hear it all in context, because even (perhaps especially) that prologue was killer.
So much fantastic stuff here, I can't comment on it all. Just, well done... do it again! This is pro stuff.

Holy crap
I've loved this song from the very first time I heard the very first version back in the day.
This
is
awesome.

The production is flawless and that prologue - oh, man, that prologue - it's fantastic.

This continues to be one of the best (if not *the* best) rock song on MJ.
Not a doubt in my mind.

Now I want this on the radio.
