A Tex-Mex Ballad. Still a work-in-progress. Mix is muddy and I have some tuning problems. Will work on those. Would love suggestions on how to improve mix.

Really like the guitar
rest in the ears right out of the shoot. Nice feel of the singing, almost like a margaritaville feel but of course all your own. Like how you seemed of mastered the feel good easy listening folk sound. Heavens knows it would be great to have more tunes like this on the radio.

You laid back, sipping lemonade on back porch of a house over looking a calming ocean etc.

Love how you captured this.

This is a GREAT addition to MJ in this style ! Really ! Good ending too ! Terrific singing, nice instrumentation !

nice song
I think you might be worrying a bit too much about the tuning issues, since I don't hear that too much. The easy feel and swaying sound and pretty singing really are quite impressive. This sounds really great to me, except the reverb on the lead vocal. Like you've got a small room reverb giving it a hollow sound; it sounds like you're singing in the bathtub, sort of harsh tone to the reverb. I think it would be great if it was cleaner sounding and more intimate. I probably should listen to this again on better speakers, but I feel like that part of the mix is what needs work the most.

Thanks so much. I think you nailed it on the head. The vocal is actually double-tracked,then mixed with the 'male basic " GB setting which is basically reverb and some EQ,(I think). With the double tracking I trying for a sorta Doug Sahm feel, but I agree it sounds harsh when it should sound intimate. Btw,I've admired your work here, very pro & original stuff. Ok, gonna try another mix.

You are such a good writer.
Would you mind posting your lyrics for those of us that like to sing along? Such a sweet hook. At first, I thought you might be singing about a car. Lol. Thanks for love song. Enjoyed it.

I'm from Texas, I have heard this war horse (the progression and feel) many times. Your take is effective, maybe Marty Robbins was the reason you made this? I hear that vibe here, maybe off the gunfighter album?
Anyway, you seem very close to something here. Everything is working in the arrangement, maybe Elvis guitar player is related to you or something, he's on all your cuts :)

I wonder if you have
remixed later on. Starting at the earliest means perhaps you've redone. Anyway this sounds pretty cool to me. I think the drums add to the muddy feel. Perhaps a more pronounced kick might help.

I've been singing and playing since the age of fourteen when my brother Paul was working his way through the Beatle book and needed someone to play with. From Paul I learned to fingerpick, play barre chords, and to sing the melody while he sang harmo... [see more]
