Euphoria's Game (feat. Gaylen Sharp) remastered

Get Flash to see this player.

this song is about the endless chase of 'euphoria' through chemical means. the chaos, pleasure, tragedy, and humanity of the substance game; as seen through the eyes of the one going through it. this is the remastered version of the track. same song, with a few tweaks in the mix, and corrected timing issues on the vocals. I think it sounds better. wanted to post it for comparison with the other version...

There's still no one outside
even if the sky opens its eyes
there's no one that can hear the sound
of my reflections lies

oh god it burns it scars me inside
no one can stave my starving plight
my bloated sense of self preservation
cant make it go away tonight

now that I'm your king
it's growing this dirty stretching thing
piercing plotting life its growing
and flowing in my veins

this babies born in fields of glass
he struggles to make us laugh
he's writhing to tear us up
a gift of bleeding love

plastic soldiers get back in line
you're marching to your deaths until I say otherwise
its not just the loss of your soul
its the beginning of the end and I'm in control

brothers don't give up the fight
don't topple down out of muddy sight
I see the whites of their eyes against the skies
I hear the cries of battle rise up in the night
a million bodies lost in the battle field tonight
I feel the light...

If you look in my eyes you'll see I'm filling with lies
is it such a surprise I don't know
oh god I'm calling tonight do a favor for me
you know I want it uncertain ecstasy

is it such a surprise that I cannot go home
you know there's nothing for me
And I don't doubt it
now I close my eyes and I just accept it
you know I have no choice
no I can't reject it

Held captive in my home, beneath a frozen lake
Forsaken to that unwavering, lifeless state
These sad secrets of mine are imprisoned in glass
For the worlds prying eyes, should they venture to pass

Suburbia covered in angry sheets of snow
Blinded white, with the pangs of an uneven flow
Permanent winter has taken place of the heart
In the shell of a life, I sought from the start

Loved the first
version of this. It really is a fine piece of work, both musically and vocally. I remember the other version was first rate production and this is too. I must admit to not really noticing the difference without re-listening to the original but I am very happy to listen again and will download this time. Thanks.

thanks Len,
yeah there isn't much of an obvious difference between the two, but a few things have been tweaked. mostly it was a timing issue, as far as getting the vox, and instruments in sync with each other. also a bit of eq adjustment. thanks for listening, and downloading. glad you like it.

This is obviously (I hope it's obvious...) very influenced by AIC and especially their last album. The vocalist is practically a double. Maybe AIC can get back together with this guy.... Very interesting, and challenging song rhythmically. This is the kind of thing I'd write and be so proud of I'd piss myself and then wonder why none of my friends dig it. I think if I could add something constructive, I think it needs something behind it... something a little more "ever-present"; something to help it flow. The structure of it is very disjointed or sparse, which is part of what makes it cool, but if it were my song I'd be trying to find a way to give it a little more flow. I'd suggest trying to do something with the bass line to tie the sparseness of the guitar. I hope you don't mind the comment. Again, if this was my song and I figured it out I'd piss myself again and then show it to my friends again. They still wouldn't like it!!! But for the record I do like this. Great work. Sorry for the bodily function language.

lol, great feedback!
yeah, its obvious; spooky 'ol Alice is an influence here. also Soundgarden, Kings X, Chris Whitley, Hed PE, a mesh of a lot of influences. thanks for the advice on the flow of the track. I think some atmospheric elements, and a steady/solid bass line would add more of a foundation to the changes throughout the song. thanks again for the advice, and the listen.

is damn fine! great lyrics, and vocal delivery, quite layne staley, but also put me in mind of mike patton and axl rose! i really like the slightly disjointed feel, but agree with chronologic i think the bass needs to be made to do some work.

damn thats a killer chorus! im gonna be singing along with that for sure.

Oh, man, this is prog rock. The vocals are great, and sure, reminiscent of several folks I could name. But that askew guitar pattern is what makes this song special. I'm sorry I missed this the first time around -- probably the genre label threw me. Chronologic makes an interesting suggestion about the bass. I would leave it alone until 2:46, then jump in with a driving bass line, and let it go a bit before the next chorus, which would send this thing into orbit.

Ah, I finally remembered what the guitar riff reminds me of -- it's a tune by Guthrie Govan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Ly93ppdDB0.

Anyway, great tune. More, please.
