Lyrics
home in green
third from the top of the hill
Tennis shoes sway
while stray dogs bay
at a distant canine thrill

home in green
seven hundred due by the third
We'd pack up today
and move far away
If they only gave us the word

But I'd miss this place so bad
The only home I ever had
The blue sky's more like brown
But I never want to leave this town

Home in green
It sure could use some repair
The carpets are worn
the curtains are torn
and the walls are always drowsy and bare

Home in green
Has got a lot of stories to tell
I'm hearing the walls
and reading the halls
and falling down the memory well

And I miss those times so bad
The rarest(dearest?) times I ever had
the memories play and play
and I hope they never fade away

Been away for a long time
The faces have changed
Streets are renamed
some have remained
But not me

I am just passing through
to see if the lines on my face match the cracks in the pavement
am I on the right street? I must be, but all that I see is a space...
Parking for 200 cars

But I'd miss this place so bad
The only home I ever had
The blue sky's more like brown
But I never want to leave this town

And I miss those times so bad
The rarest(dearest?) times I ever had
the memories play and play
and I hope they never fade away

I am just passing through...

McCartneyish..?
Either you're very liberal with your comments or I'm too hard on myself to take a compliment like that with a straight face. Either way, thanks. I'll be sure to listen to some of your stuff as well.

really like it a lot
I would love to hear a more "clean", more structured version.
idea is top notch!
nice, interesting melody over a simple backing.

Nice tune
I think you are looking for some critical suggestions for your more polished version, and since that seems to be my specialty, I will offer some more criticism.
The vocal has a nice quality, but I think there's a touch too much reverb on the vocal. It sounds a bit hollow. I'm not sure if the double tracking serves this well, since I really like your voice but doubling it makes it a little diluted. Is that actually doubled singing or is it one sung vocal using a doubling delay?
It's very trebley and I think I'm missing some bass. It's sort of an AM radio sound. A lot of the instruments are competing with the vocals for space, like the cymbals, the distorted guitar. I think the panning choices might contribute to this. The vocals sound like they are mostly panned to the sides and the guitar is more in the middle/left and the drums are middle/right. Normally you'd center the vocals for more punch and spread the guitars and drums more to the side. I don't know if you are using the stereo imaging effect in Logic, but that's a good way to make more space.
I think the drums are really nicely done but could be a bit louder. You might try a little bit of overdrive on the drums to give them more of an edge, and they'd fit into the guitar sound a bit better. And where's the bass?

Like I say, this is a great song and I think you've got a lot of great things going on here. It's pretty good as it is, to tell you the truth. And of course these ideas I have about the mix are only my personal opinion and take them for what they're worth.

Do what you will for your final recording, but the song writing is solid, and that is a great place to start for whatever you are wanting to do with it. I like it, good job!

reassuring...
Thanks for the encouragement, man. i went against my usual songwriting procedure with this one. Normally, I get the tune down first, then struggle for lyrics. This time, I didn't worry about the music until I got the words down pat. I have to say i worked out good this time.

Cracking song...
... especially the tempo change into the chorus. The big riffing is great. For a polish I'd lift everything up in the mix and go "wall of sound" with lashings of reverb - but then that's just me.
I'd also maybe go for a double vocal, with a lower register in there too - kind of Alice in Chains style. All of this I think would make an already great song simply wonderful.
Excellent work

my plans...
...I really want to experiment with layering instruments as the song progresses. starting with basic 4 piece arrangement and gradually adding addition instruments, giving the final chorus run throughs an extra punch. You know, a real pay-off. I also wanna use my e-bow for something cool in this. Thanks for the suggestions, though. I'm all about "wall of sound' production. So maybe that'll find itself in the next iteration.
