Description
I am not really sure what this one is about. About how people judge each other I think. About how seeking the truth is not that important, I guess people already have the "answers" so they forget to ask the question. I saw a quote earlier today that Bud posted on another song, and it said something about making the question more important than the answer. Well, if not more, I think questions are at least as important, because without them the answer is useless, really, isn't it? And how can you be sure what you are really answering if you haven't really given the question any thought? Also I think that blind answers can be big trouble because they delude people from finding real answers to real questions. Why ask if you think you already know?

I once heard a story... it was basically the husband asking the wife, "hey I noticed you always cut the end off the roast before you put it in the oven... why?". She says "I don't know. My mom taught me to do it that way, I better ask her." She calls mom and asks, and mom says "I don't know, your grandma always did it that way. It seemed important, let me call her and ask.". She calls Grandma, and grandma says "Oh, I had a small pan and I had to cut the end off to make it fit.". GREAT. Three generations are cutting the end off the roast and they don't even know why! They probably don't have a small pan anyway! Silly! This is what I mean I guess. Answers can be silly if you haven't pursued the question.

Production notes, on this song I used my Fender Jaguar and Deluxe amp. This is the only song I've done where these were actually used, normally I find their sound isn't "right" for what I'm trying to accomplish but on this song it was just the opposite. Nothing else would have worked without that Jaguar. It is perfect for the song and I am very happy with the result.

Also, I had some earlier working copies of this song and the lead guitar actually changed a lot for this version. There is much more expression and inflection on this version. I guess I can't explain. Nevermind.

Very cool to have you here though, thanks for listening. Love to hear your thoughts.

Lyrics
I find you in your innocence and I fail to understand
why I've found you in your darkest hour and you're
down on your knees again
Did you find your revelation giving you the answers that you need?
Or did the sound of silence beckon you to the welcome arms of sleep

Save me
From this complicated mess
Tell me
What do I have to do
to get through to you

Can I see through your mystic eyes
to the world you keep within
I wonder where I am inside you
do I have a place to live?
Will I find your revelation
giving me the answers that I need
Or am I knocking outside your door
while you're swallowing the key

You're waiting on the circumstance to line up at your feet
waiting for the perfect chance to change your destiny

intro
Feter, yeah, I guess a few people thought that. I guess I will try to respond to it, and I don't know if my response will work for you, but I'll say what I can, from my heart. I do appreciate the feedback and your gut reaction is totally "food for thought" for me. I of course want to make an impression, and it should be a good one. But I'm ok with not being #1 on the top 40... I'd settle for #40, if that were possible. Anyway, the reason I don't just play a straight rock song, is that I'm trying to keep the "alternative" in "alternative rock". This genre is supposed to be more than just rock, although the mainstream has forgotten that. You can read about one of my alternative idols here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camper_Van_Beethoven And I encourage you to find out more about them and their sound. Really they have had a big influence on me I think, you can hear it more in some songs than others. But, having heard that, do you think I still screwed up? I'd love to converse about it and learn something. Thanks.

ok... so I know you're a blues and classic rock guy...
but being from Syria it would be PRETTY INTERESTING to hear your take on Camper Van. I recommend Key Lime Pie as the first listen. It's very clean and well produced.

The answer to your question
is t make it into a piece of art. You are a craftsman, who could have been
the story teller. You pose a good point. Cool song, with a structure. Love the vocals and lyrics you are very good at making real songs that avoid all the glitz and faking. Seems like you are in a creative mood recently, lots of very good work coming out of your studio. BTW loved the photos of your space, it reminded me of somebody.

Deluxe
I am not sure what year. I bought it new about 3 years ago I think. I'll find out and PM you. I really like the sound of it. It definitely sounds a "certain way", so if I need that sound, there it is. Other times "that sound" seems to just get in the way. I'm still experimenting with it -- I hope to use it more in the future. I also want to put my two rigs together in the mix (fender/fender, gibson/marshall). So far though I can't get it all worked out. The sounds go mushy together. This stuff is so hard!!! Thanks for stopping by.

The Jaguar is a Better Guitar Than Car
The Jaguar sounds very good as does the rest of the musical tracks. Good production and dynamics. I like the softer guitar break, adds some drama to the piece.

Good one!

What great references
It's an honor to be mentioned in the same sentence as two greats. I saw Nirvana live when I was in HS... I was on the front row, enduring the press of the crowd, singing along with "school", looking Kurt in the eye, felt like a superstar just to be 10 feet from him. He is one of my idols. I loved his no-nonsense approach to music and PR. The dude was real man. The tide that followed him was all kinds of things, real not always the first. But Kurt was real. I have the Nirvana box set with the home videos and Kurt and his friends feel just like me and mine. Maybe that makes me cool like him???!! Anyway.... I love Santana also and his playing is something that I wish I could attain. I dig the soul and vibe carlos puts out. Beats the shred in my book. Thanks for stopping by to help me understand myself, it's a pleasure.

WOW I'm a huge Beatles fan. But I'm not sure I can believe that. I'll really think about it though. If I could be an ant on the bottom of John's shoe (his old brown shoe maybe?? :)) I'd take it. If even one ounce of John rubbed off on me I can now die and go to heaven.

Cool song

.. lyrics stand-out as the best part to me- not meaning anything else was bad u know :o) To my limited references, it had a kinda Radiohead "paranoid android" (lesser) meets Dan Reed Network (bit more so) kinda thang going on .. which was very pleasing and unique... bluesy and quirky, fresh and a little funky... still alt.pop.rock. Fine song.

refernce to one of my fav songs
I really like the early Radiohead (I know, I know, everyone hates me) a lot. But Paranoid Android is a standout from their (middle) later work. I love that one. I'm glad to hear some of you guys can pick out what I think are legitimate influences. I have spent a lot of time listening to Radiohead. Though their early work is what they themselves call a "sell-out" I haven't heard any other band sound like that in a long time. Their early work was stand-out, just like their later work. And I just love some lines from pablo... "anyone can play guitar" always gets in my mind. Thanks for coming by!!!!

Mess, Confusion Celebration
I dig the vibe here. These sounds remind me of my band The Surgeons from '84, especially a cut called "Shut Up and Get On With It". The short scale on the Jag might have added to the angst/clostrophobic feel, that fret buzz too.
Thanks for taking me back to some good times. Let that bass line talk a little more...drive. I like it! I'll be back for more.

whew
I was amazed nobody commented on the fret buzz before now. That was my fault. I was messing with my bridge height and lowered it just a bit too much. Most of the time the guitar sounds great and is very playable at that height but this song seemed to hone in on the one fret that buzzes like a bumble-bee. That is the one thing I hate, and wish I could take away without having to redo the entire performance. But, I had a deadline and let it go. I'm willing to accept it. Like you, I'll rationalize about how it expresses the "angst" and call it art. Wink, wink. Thanks for your considered comment!! I'll check out that band I haven't heard them.

dude I misread
I didn't catch "my band" I just read "a band". Was your take preemptive to Cracker "get off this"? If so you're in without a sound check. Anyway I'm pretty open, I'll take any input you can send to my leads. Let me know man.

Old Times are Good Times
That Austin Texas band was fun. Largest bar tab in Central Texas, attracted so many from the Cowboy Pharmacy Set there was an undercover in the head at every gig. No one made money except the guys selling specials and alcohol. Musicians ended up hating each other and loosing the works.
Dam we had fun. Best outfit I was ever in, all time, for just wailing.
The leads were servicable with medium flash and vibe. I like to hear a story and development of an idea. As a soloist I like the band to follow my lead. "Here is it Jones," approach is cool but I like, "I got this for ya', and the crew follows the new colors.
No reason to back up, this is solid.

Oh yeah!
this has such a great feel to it . At first I was thinking Sound Garden. When you stared to singing it changed the direction of the song. Great vocal delivery the deep vocals in the background add weight. There are a few parts that sound kind of jumbled. Over all it kicks BTW love the cow bell. Great song!

thanks
Interesting comment about soundgarden. I definitely wasn't thinking that way, and I guess it ends up showing. But the comparison is fine, I take it in a good way. I have used a cowbell a little. My two major drum "tricks" are to use a cowbell, which isn't that tricky, and to drop a tambourine on the hi-hat, which is maybe slightly tricky. Some songs need the extra spice and I prefer to do all the percussion as if I were one guy... so I drop it on there and it comes out pretty nice. This song actually has both tricks!!! Thanks for coming.

jumbled
I meant to comment about this also...I guess I should say I'm sorry. I do try hard to avoid that, mostly. I like a super liquid flow, a complicated interaction, and somehow keep it tight. I'm asking for 3 things that are like pushing the wrong ends of 3 magnets together. I do try. The flow is the most important thing to me out of the bunch.

to have your support. I think my fav part is in the lead where there is a whining bend that is hardly a bend at all but feels whiny like a two year old. Not that I'm making sense, and it was naturally a terrific accident anyway. Just glad you enjoyed it! Thanks.
